5.0 out of 5 stars Loosely Autobiographical.. 2 July 2004
By Lady H
Format:Paperback
This is only just my favourite Lucilla, My Friend the Professor being a very close second. I found this book not only very readable, but very vividly authentic. I understood why when I read her autobiography - A Hospital Summer is the closest to her own story. I read most of her books before I trained as a nurse myself, and this book affected my attitude to the patients as well as giving me insight into the second world war. I have a hardback copy of it, bought in a charity shop (along with the other 26 of her hospital stories), and it would have to be one of the books I took to a desert island as I never tire of reading it...

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you , Nurse. 18 Oct 2003
By Lady H
Format:Hardcover
This book is full of depth and humour. I became a nurse myself 12 years ago, a few years after first discovering Lucilla's books, and they influenced the way I treated the patients I cared for. This book also changed my views about Rememberance Sunday as well as giving me the patience to listen to older people tell me (sometimes over & over again!), how it - the 2nd world war - was for them. Very readable and authentic.
