It was definitely a slog to get thru. There was a great deal of minutia in the early history of Sicily, the Greek settlement, the trading posts of the Phonecians, the incursions of the Catheginians, all the wars. I learned more about the Peloponnesian wars than I cared to know. Learned a lot, but l think what l truly am interested in is more of the cultural and ethnic history of Sicily than this book had to offer. It was touched on a bit at the end but not enough for my interest. The author also assumes that the reader has more knowledge about this era than this reader possesses.
