Not an INTRODUCTION to Indian History 2 Oct 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Dr Spear seems to be writing for one already educated in the who did what in British india. He continually presents events that he assumes are within the knowlege of the reader and then attempts to show how these events affected the shape of modern India.

A must for any serious student of Indian history 16 Oct 2000
By vijay vaidyanathan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Romila Thapar is the person to start with if u want an overview of Indian history. She does not concentrate so much on personalities as she does on the society of the relevant eras. Highly readable and certainly the best book of Indian history that I have read so far.
