In A Healing Family, Kenzaburo Oe, the Japanese literary giant, describes the relationships in a family that is not incredible; the Oe family is real. While Oe occasionally relates episodes of life with his mentally disabled son, Hikari, that seem irrelevant, this is easily overlooked when the reader finds the gems that Oe's broad sweep produces. More touching than the relationships are Hikari's observations about the world in which we live. In A Healing Family, Hikari is the teacher; his father and the reader, are his students. The reader will remember some of the lessons forever...

Hard to believe that no one else has written a review of this book because it is excellent... Oe's manner of dealing with his son's affliction and the effects it has on his family is truly amazing... His manner is truly one of love and serenity.... Without any reservations, I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about "heart"...
