I worry about John when he leaves the Nightside but of course I needn't have as he always comes good in the end. Enjoyed this one. It takes place soon after the end of The Good the Bad and the Uncanny with John going home to Shotgun Suzie and finding an unusual sword-shaped package waiting for him. Things progress from there and we go on a trip with John though not his usual trip through the Nightside since he goes to London Proper for a while, leaving Suzie behind. What can I say - we meet Merlin, the London Knights, elves, a host of interesting and unusual characters; we visit Camelot, alternate realities and get up to all kinds of shenanigans before returning to the Nightside and enlisting Suzie's help to fight the good fight against the Big Bad. We find out more about what it really meant to be Walker and more about the history of the elves, and there's a surprise in store for John at the very end of the book! I've read all of Simon R Green's books but the Nightside is definitely my favourite series. I would also recommend the Secret Histories series as Eddie Drood is also a great character and goes on some fun adventures. There is as always some crossover between series and worlds which is great for the fans. 4.5/5
