4.0 out of 5 stars More emotionial intrigues from 5 Caper Court 28 Nov 2000
Lovers of the intrigue that always surrounds 5 Caper Court will be excited at the prospect of another thumping good read.
The usual characters from the barristers chamber are here - Leo Davies, Anthony Cross, Rachel, Charles Beecham, Felicity, Camilla, Henry and the return of Sarah Coleman to add further tension to the emotional intigues that entangle these closely knit companions.
Caro Fraser certainly scores highly on the level of passion her characters achieve, but this booked seemed to miss the theme of a strong commercial law case, and some of the outcomes of the twisting relationships had become a little predictable.
Still, it did not spoil the book, and the last pages sufficinetly revealed another emotional tangle that hopefully predicts a further 5 Caper Court novel.

Fraser continues to develop the legal and sexual exploits of Anthony Cross and Leo with her usual skilled incisive style; the characters are ageing well and convincingly; the relationships are portrayed acutely and with a sophisticatedly disguised soap-style. The legal expertise of the author underpins the more superficial levels and enriches the plot quality.

This book is the fourth of Caro Fraser's which focusses upon the lives and loves of the barristers at 5 Caper Court.
It is extremely well written and is a gripping read. Once started, you will want to read it from cover to cover in one sitting. It's primary focus is not so much on the law itself, but the situations that the barristers find themselves in, whether in chambers, in a courtroom or in a wine bar.
I read the first of Fraser's novels in this series and loved it. I couldn't wait for more. It is nice to have a continuous theme and it feels as if you are going home to characters that you know really well.
After finishing A Hallowed Place recently, I am waiting avidly for the next novel in the series to be published.
