Book Description

30 April 2009 0702029823 978-0702029820 5
This book gives a synoptic description of the practical details of how to carry out the common procedures in imaging on which a trainee in radiology will be expected to be familiar. It does not attempt to cover rarer techniques beyond the scope of the exam or to show the resulting images. Every technique is described under a set of standard headings (for example: methods, indications, equipment, patient preparation, technique, aftercare, complications, further reading).

Review

"The book provides a comprehensive and well-referenced guide to a wide range of imaging techniques and the imaging modalities employed...Overall, an excellent book that benefits from the additional chapters on sedation and monitoring, medical emergencies and breast procedures and the updates made to the exisiting chapters." 5.0 out of 5 stars Radiography Students!!! 24 Jun 2011
By N. J. H. TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I'm just reaching the end of my first year as a radiography student and this book was recommended to me by a radiographer during my allocated placement. This book wasn't on the suggested reading list at my University but I can't understand why. I'm so glad that I picked this up because it's simple, easy to read and laid out to suit people with different methods of learning. There aren't massive chunks of text but there are diagrams, techniques and advice.

The book is divided into examinations of certain systems: Urinary system, reproductive etc...Each chapter describes all of the examinations available to image each system which is invaluable for us students who are only just learning.

Each chapter has headings describing: Why patients may be having this examination/indications, why they may not be allowed to have it/contraindications and any possible side-effects. It also highlights the pre-procedure care and aftercare that the patient needs to know and you should be able to tell them.

For first years this book is primarily useful for IVU (Intravenous Urograms) and Barium procedures because it gives a step-by-step and diagramatic approach showing exactly what you would do. Unfortunately this book isn't quite small enough to fit in your pocket BUT radiographers are usually more than happy for you to have a book with you to help you. Not only this, but this book is often found in department to refresh peoples memories.

Absolutely integral to my first year, particularly when revising for exams and during placement. I would recommend this for both school-leavers and mature students especially as it is quicker to read then searching through massive anatomy books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Radiology Techniques 15 Sep 2010
Format:Paperback
What a great little book. Not quite pocket sized unless you have big pockets but a must to have on you when starting your radiology screening lists. It not only gives you a play by play guide to the procedure with handy little diagrams to aid you with positioning and instructions, but also information on who should have it, why they need it and what can go wrong. Helpful information to know when that F1 arrives card in hand asking for a scan so that you can tell them that its not needed and recall that whole paragraph and feel really clever.
Anybody due to start a career in radiology or even just interested and want to know what tests you can get for your patients this is the book you need. The Radiology Procedure Bible.
