Product Description

The military has a policy of ‘don’t ask…don’t tell’ where homosexuality is concerned. Here is the story of one young man that joins the military despite his sexual orientation and finds other like-minded guys. This is the tale of how they excel in their career paths so that few question their dedication to their military careers, and how they still manage to satisfy their baser needs and instincts.

There is nothing more difficult for a gay man than having to hide an integral part of their lives in order to pursue service to their country. Emmett is such a young man. He joins the Navy in order to obtain an education and serve his country. What he learns about himself during his years of service allows him to become a valued member of the military family while still being able to be gay. He learns also how to pass on his experience to other gay men so that they too can become all they can be while still being true to their sexual desires and needs.

This is the story of one young man’s journey to professional, personal and sexual satisfaction.

5.0 out of 5 stars A geat read 4 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback
I first discovered Wayne Telfer some months ago through a web site on which his stories are published so was very pleased to see that he has now made it into print. This is an erotic story of the career of a young man who joins the US Navy to better himself and develop skills he can use when his enrolment term has expired. As Emmett (the hero's name) is gay he has to be very careful in any sexual adventures while enlisted but he manages to cope very well and has some very erotic experiences - as Wayne says in his Dedication, "Gay men can, after all, serve and fight too". The book ends on the high note of Emmett winning a big promotion and deciding to make the Navy his career. I can thoroughly recommend this book and hope that it is a great success and leads to much more of Wayne's work being published.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gay Sailor's Journey [Paperback] Wayne Telfer 25 Nov 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Well written, the author being devoted to military service made the story so real. His characters are well drawn and very positive. It was a shame to learn to learn that, unlike his hero of the story, was dischared without his honour and entitlements.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth reading more than once! 2 Oct 2009

Wayne Telfer is a writer whose stories are just as enjoyable after the second or third reading. "A Gay Sailor's Journey" is just such a story. Emmett is a thoughtful, caring and mature young man whom I would enjoy having as a friend. He is always looking out for others who are in need and willing to help them any way he can. Emmett makes friends throughout his Naval career, and those men will never forget the type of man he is deep down where character, honor and trust are developed.

Telfer also knows his boats and ships. It is obvious he has "been there and done that." He gives an understanding to his stories' settings that shows great research and personal knowledge. I'm looking forward to more of his delightful stories' being published so I can read them anywhere...anytime.

"A Gay Sailor's Journey" would make an excellent gift for someone's birthday or other occasion.

4.0 out of 5 stars A cut above the usual 4 Aug 2009
By Molly Malloy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I was given this book as a present and I enjoyed it, a lot. I even tried to write a more detailed review a couple weeks ago but Amazon's puritans decided my use of a phrase for oral copulation on a male was unacceptable and refused to post it. I didn't keep a copy of that and I never repeat myself except when I do so let me just say -- Emmett's journey from a boy caught up in a nowhere town who sees joining the navy as his only way out to a young man with a vision for his future and a bold acceptance of his sexual orientation was a nice, quick erotic read. It's obviously written by somebody who's been in the Navy and knows the ways and mores of it. Yeah, there's some explosive sex in it -- I like the three-way he got into -- but most of the story is Emmett expanding on his experiences and, finally, becoming willing to share those experiences with the newbies. I'd say it's a cut above the usual porn while not letting you down in its reason to be. Definitely worth a read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining - but could use a proofreader 4 Feb 2011
By The Old Man by the Sea - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
After spending my own 6 years in the Navy before being booted out (in the days before DADT) this book appealed to me because of the setting.

I found his descriptions of Navy life to be authentic, and his story in general to be credible. You grew to like the main character, and looked forward to his next adventure. I wished the book were a bit longer.

There were numerous spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors scattered throughout the book. This can be distracting. I don't know if the author self-published and didn't ask anyone to read it over first, or if his editor is just not terribly good.

I hope he writes more, I'd like to give them a try.
