The Festival of Carols is one of the great British traditions that go back for some 90 years, and this recording by the BBC is one of the very best. Just lstening to the lone voice of the choir boy singing the first verse of Once in Royal David's City immediately transports one into Kings and away from the hurly burly of preparations for Christmas. This recording with its mixture of the traditionaland more modern music is aesthetically and technically brilliant, it brings home the true meaning of Christmas and is a delight to the ear as it signals the beginning of another Christmas.

After considering that this is a live recording,one can understand that the very slight loss of quality is actually deliberate; the recording reproduces a beautiful carol service,and faithfully recreates the atmosphere.

Christmas in the 21st century has really lost it's meaning with all the media and hype to spend, spend, spend. If you truly want to celebrate this special season, sit back and contemplate the meaning of Advent through the 9 readings and Carols. Really enjoyed this cd.
