If you know Tiamat you should know that this album was released after the excellent "Wildhoney" and has became a synonym for disappointment for many people. At the same time a lot of fans (including myself) still managed to find something unique with this release. It is an excellent journey through the musical landscape painted be songs starting from track 2. Track 1 is a kind of distractor as it is faster and different than the rest - a typical single. However, the whole album is gently connected by keeping the songs flow from one to another. You can listen to it as one project. Most likely that way intended anyway. If you are open minded and heard 'Wildhoney' and liked more subtle elements, 'A Deeper Kind of Slumber' will most likely suit your taste. There is very litlle 'metal' here, if at all.
I bought this release as I was disappointed with 'The Ark of the Covenant' edition of this album and have to say that this version does not disappoint. The songs are joined as one again and the release is presented in a nice looking DigiBook. Definitely the best version of this album to date. There is also a bonus track from the single and some videos on the disc.
Buy it for your collection. You will not be disappointed!
