The review suggests it could develop into a very interesting read, however, it was a real let-down. The more I read, the more irritated I became with such a wimpish "heroine." The intended twist was very easy to spot, quite a long way before the end and I was wondering how long it would take her to figure out the obvious. It was a long, long time.
I would say that this really shouldn't be classified as adult reading matter - though there is some sexual content, I would suggest that it would be more appropriate to be classified as teenage fiction, if such a category still exists.
I couldn't wait to finish this book and start something more compelling, it certainly didn't make me want to find anything else written by the same author.
However, I will finish on a positive note - I thank the author for giving the character of the Library friend a more realistic personality, much less type-cast than is usually given to those working in the profession. (Yes, you guessed it, I'm a Librarian and I don't wear tweed, twinsets or say Shhhh! ANY of the time!)

Thought this was a good book. Really enjoyed it, as it didn't have such a contemporary feel to it as some of Hillary Bonners other books. It felt quite gothic in tone, and despite what some other reviewers have written here, the fact the heroine was rather wimpish at the beginning added to the novel. She gains strength through the novel as events transpire and what she believes to be true she finds isn't. The characters were believeable and i felt the book was very emotive.

This book opens by introducing us to the main character, Suzanne, and the recurrent nightmares which blight her life. The events behind the nightmares, and the deceit that her life is based on are explored, as she faces up to the past, setting off a chain of events, which changes her life forever.
However, although this subject could make compelling reading, the book failed on several accounts.
The book had a very old fashioned feel to it although it was set in the present day. This was certainly in part due to the main character being so pathetic that it was difficult to relate to her, never mind feel any concern.
The story had really been completed by the time the reader is about two thirds of the way through the book. The last third is really building up to the "sting in the tail", which was
a great anti-climax because, as the story progresses, the ending becomes increasingly obvious, leading the reader all too certain how the story will end. However the characters are so
unlikable, its really hard to care what the outcome is.
