Since the band arrived on the scene with their first album in 1998, progressive melodic metal band Evergrey have brought out eight studio albums and one live cut. All of them made the top 20 in their native Sweden and the last two made the top 10. On top of that, their DVD 'A Night To Remember' was number 1 for four weeks and nominated for a Grammy in Sweden. For their last single 'Wrong' they received a gold award in April 2011 for over 10.000 sold copies in Sweden. The band has toured around the globe several times, together with In Flames, Nevermore, Throwdown, Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom and Iced Earth, among others. In 2011 they toured successfully in Europe with Kamelot and in the USA with Sabaton.

I still think of prog metallers Evergrey as a new band, but it's seventeen years since they formed and fourteen years since their debut album came out. It must be that thing where all doctors and policeman look to be about twelve years old after you reach a certain age. Somehow seventeen plus fourteen divided by two means it's time for "A Decade And A Half" after eight previous studio albums and a live 'un.
They're officially Big In Sweden with all their records hitting the Top 20, and their DVD going to number one, but for some reason they seem to bouncing off a glass ceiling everywhere else in the world. Maybe it's their ever changing line-up, maybe it's the prog metal overload that we've had over the last decade or so, but this release may be a good way for folks to catch up on their doings, if they've missed all their previous. Or Steamhammer are losing faith.
Whatever, you're getting a double album, at a decent price, which has 24 songs, including two previously unreleased live tracks (boo!) and a 24 page booklet with the previously unreleased tracks being `Wrong' and `Frozen', both (live and unplugged), and guaranteed to annoy the hell out of the Evergrey diehards who have all the other records. It touches on all aspects of their career to date, with the tunes from "A Night To Remember", still the best in my less than humble opinion. Their prog metal falls firmly on the metal side of the equation, so there's plenty of fiery riffs and stomping rhythms to keep the air guitar hordes happy, but enough intricacies to keep progsters listening.
There probably aren't many mad for it melodic prog-metallers out there who haven't encountered them live somewhere down the line, what with their tours with the likes of In Flames, Nevermore, Arch Enemy, Children Of Bodom, Kamelot and Iced Earth. And if they haven't bought any Evergrey records, then this is a good place to start.

Evergrey's Melodic Metal Assault !!

If you have been in the dark for the past 10 years and have not heard of the metal band EVERGREY then turn off the mainstream radio and go buy some real metal! This band is one of my all time favorites and has pushed the melodic threshold by delivering time and time again TRUE METAL with soul! Even though it is a compilation of they're previous albums it is a must buy for any fan or new listener. Is it a blind buy for a new fan...absolutely!! Get a fix with some awesome metal at a great price. 2 disc with a 24 page booklet and unreleased tracks...you can't beat this deal! EVERGREY ROCKS !!

I have been a fan of this band since first seeing the video for "Blinded" on Headbangers Ball back in the early 2000's. They are like no other. I can't even begin to describe how great their music is. They nearly called it quits a few years ago when all of the equipment was stolen in Italy while on tour. Thank God they didn't quit. Tom Englund is an incredible song writer, guitarist and singer. Check out this "greatest hits" and you'll be hooked. Highly underrated but never disappointing.
