Product Description

In 1977, at the dawn of the punk movement the Misfits set out to make an impression, and created a legacy that has truly withstood the test of time. Immortalizing black and white B horror films in their music, the Misfits developed a ghoulish and totally unique persona of their own that's consistently evolved over the years, while remaining true to its roots. Boasting a massive catalog of music old and new, a new lineup, (consistently helmed by founding member Jerry Only), and an influence felt around the world, the Misfits are generating more interest today than ever before. The raw ferocity of the legendary Misfits captured DEA.D. ALIVE! in concert on All Hallows' Eve, in the center of Times Square New York City! The 'Fits first proper live album since the 1980's is entombed in the ultimate greatest hits live package for the next generation of horror kids...A.D. With select tracks from the band's encore set at their hometown show in NJ added for good measure, (recorded live on 'Devil's Night' no less). The diverse set of modern day Misfits classics included range from current hits on through all-new live versions of earlier-era material recorded live, with a level of precision and intensity garnered in over three decades of horror business. In addition to 13 fiendish favs from the band's cryptic catalog, the live set also includes a cover version of the Rocky Horror anthem Science Fiction/Double Feature performed by the Misfits for the first time ever on any release!

Yes, it's the Jerry fronted Misfits but I actually like his voice! He's got a sound that's suitably different from "those who I will not name" and his voice he is at it's strongest. My largest complaint with this album is the poor choice of songs. They have a brilliant ould have back catalogue and it would have been nice to hear how Jerry sings those. The few from the second era that he does tackle, he sings very well. Overall sound wise, there's alot of bass here and Jerry's playing style means there's not alot to make out, just one big rumble. But it gets better as the album goes on. But the stand out track for me by far is the cover os Science Fiction/Double Feature which I think is worth the price of this cd alone! Well worth checking out, it's only the poor choice of new material (there are better tracks on that album than alot of what is played here) that lets this cd down!

Ok Jerry...you win 12 Aug. 2013

I'm a big fan of American Psycho and Famous Monsters so a post-Danzig release is no big shock for me. However, Jerry Only's incarnation of the Misfits has been so lackluster for the past 10 years that I lost all interest. I reluctantly picked up this album because I was curious to hear Jerry Only's versions of the 90's Misfits tunes like "The Shining".

Wow, I was totally impressed by this entire album. When did Jerry learn how to sing? He's not half bad! The first half being from the new Devil's Rain were surprisingly good. I immediately rushed out and bought that CD too after hearing the live versions of "Dark Shadows" "Land of the Dead" "Curse of the Mummy's Hand"

Fast forward to a week later and I've listened to this album at least a dozen times. It's easily my favorite Misfits live album. Completely destroys Evilive and Evilive 2. I'm glad there's no Danzig-era tracks on here because it would draw too many unflattering comparisons. I wish the setlist was a bit more complete because I know the Misfits play 35-40 songs a night.

Another important aspect of the album is the killer cover art. Reminds me of Iron Maiden from the Poweslave Era, but with an evil twist.

Pick this album up...it's a lot of fiendish fun!

Not bad. Not bad at all! 20 Feb. 2013

I saw the Misfits in Allentown, PA around Halloween of 2008 and this new live record sounds pretty much like the band does live. I'm really happy with this and glad that I purchased it. The fold-out packaging is great with terrific artwork and great photos. It's nice to hear Jerry singing a lot of the Graves-era songs along with the new songs. If you're a fan you'll want this. If you're just getting into the band you'll want to buy American Psycho, Famous Monsters, and Devil's Rain first so you can learn and memorize all the songs before buying this. While most live albums contain lots of studio fixerups, this sounds exactly like a Misfits show so it's not pretty and it's relatively raw but it's enjoyable nonetheless. Now...please don't make us wait ten years for another studio album1

Team Jerry, but.... 6 Feb. 2013
By Spikor - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
First off, I am team Jerry 100%, he's awesome and for him to keep the band going is great. Bands have line-up changes and it seems people cant/wont accept that with this band. Dez has been in this band longer than anyone other than Jerry or Doyle. Glenn as great as he is, probably isnt coming back ever, though that would be freaking sweet. But I digress.

This disc is pretty weak. The bass is out of control heavy, which is what we expect. Other song choices wouldve been better, Forbidden Zone, Day of the Dead, Dust to Dust, Don't Open Till Doomsday, Hunting Humans, more of the catchier stuff etc...Shining and AP are pretty dang sloppy and really slow this disc down. Most of The Devil's Rain was pretty great but Vivid Red and Cold in Hell are two of the the weakest moments on that disc, yhey shouldve included Monkey's Paw and The Black Hole instead. I know that this disc doesnt cover any Glenn-era tunes and thats fine with me, but at least put tracks on here that are listenable.

For sound though, this is the most clear live recording out there, Evilive and Evilive II are pretty dang raw, I suspect some overdubbing has been done on this. The guitar and bass are as loud as they are the shows. Dez throws some nice riffs in there every now and then, change it up a little bit.

For completists only. Otherwise stick with the studio releases.
Pretty darn good live cd. 17 Mar. 2013

Let's face it.....this isn't the classic line-up. But fans of Jerry Only's version of the Misfits may breath a sigh of relief. This is a really good Live CD. Jerry's voice is actually much stronger this time out and the band sounds nice. The songs go by at a quick pace, so it seems a bit short to me, but I'm happy. Great cover art, just like Devil's Rain. (Misfits have always had cool artwork.) I actually like this alot better than Devil's Rain, but not as good as the Famous Monsters era. If Jerry could get a great front man, this band could be 100% awesome.........for now and Dead Alive, it's a nice 80% Awesome, which is pretty darn good.

Sound is mushy, performance sloppy, setlist disappointing 3 May 2013
By Mister Denial - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I bought this record without being able to listen to it first, because I am an old-school Misfits fiend, and was in a buying mood. Well, big mistake! Some people reviewed this disc as being "for fans only", but I would even go further, I would only recommend it to people who absolutely need every release to complete their collection, and who don't care if they'll ever even listen to the disc.

Because it really is quite terrible. The sound is mushy, badly mastered and recorded, the mix is really screwed up. Or maybe it's because of the sloppy performance by the band, they don't sound in time or sync most of the time. Just because you play punk doesn't mean you have to play bad! I mean, it did remind me of old Crass or Black Flag recordings, when these guys were young, drunk, angry and inexperienced. A seasoned band like Misfits should not play like that, I expect them to have their act together. If you're confusing raw energy with sloppy performance, you're doing something wrong.

And then the set list: sure, I can understand Jerry Only wants to leave the Danzig era out, but still, there are so many catchier songs available to perform than those on this disc. Didn't get hooked at all - and that's what Misfits was all about: grab you by the guts, and don't let go. Misfits tunes are supposed to stay in your ear and head the whole day. They were catchy; this is not.

For me, as a fan of old Misfits and who even enjoyed American Psycho a lot, this disc is a purchase I regret. Didn't pay much for it, but that was still too much. Unless you are a collector, avoid this album.
