This is the first book I've read by Mary Higgins Clark and if this is her usual standard, it will certainly not be my last! This book kept me enthralled to the end! The reader can almost feel themself being suffocated by the smothering, possessive and obsessive love that Erich has for Jenny and the terror she feels upon realising that she has finally become a prisoner of her own dream (now her deepest nightmare!). Gripping reading - More, please!

All I can say in response to reading this book is: WARNING! Do not read unless you have a lot of time on your hands, otherwise you may find other things getting neglected (as was the case with me!). I am a huge fan of Mary Higgins Clark and this is definitely one of her best...!

At first I was frustrated with poor old Jenny. How could someone be foolish enough to go off with someone after knowing them after only one month. Then I took a look around and saw that some of the people I know in my life have made choices similar to hers, though with far more pleasant outcomes.
Higgins Clark writes an enjoyable thriller. I like her characters and have several of her books. She is not afraid to delve into the horrors of human-kind and makes these horrors into something readable. Lets face it - this stuff happens all the time. People are abused and killed and destroyed in various ways by people they thought were dependable.
I like Higgins Clark for two reasons. One is the entertainment I find in her books. Even with my cheating (I always check out the ending first), she manages to catch me in the trap of her prose. The second is that she raises questions about difficult (and even taboo) topics in life in a manner that makes me take a second look at my own attitutes and views.

It seemed like a fairytale book when I first read it. Jenny had two delightful children called ELizabeth (Beth) and Christina (Tina) and was struggelling to make ends meet after she divorced from her husband Kevin. Jenny worked at a gallery and upon meeting a new artist, thry immediatly fell in love. Less than a month later they are together on his luxurious estate. Soon after that strange things start happenning that Jenny just can't explain...
I enjoyed this book as I found it didn't make the 'bad guy' obvious but instead just let the evidence mount up against Jenny, and just about everyone else. I also liked the detail which was put in as it helped you to imagine that you were there, seeing the whole story.
This is a brilliant book not just for adults but teenagers aswell. Another fabulous book by Mary Higgins Clark.

I seem to be going through a patch of reading an author's best work first and being disappointed by subsequent books I read by them.
This fitted that pattern. The man in this book was too weird to be true. If a character becomes too unreal I just switch off from the book as the character is no longer a real person so I can't empathise with them or care about them.
The woman in this book was a wet blanket who signed over her children to the first handsome man with money who smiled at her, so I felt very little sympathy for her either.
Make your baddies more realistic. The really chilling killers are those who seem most human, not the Norman Bates style psychos.

A Cry In The Night, was an excellent book, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I would reccommend any of Mary Higgins Clark books, she is my favourite Authoress, but I have now read all of her books and I'll have to wait until she has another one published! She never stoops to explicit sex or foul language, if she did, I wouldn't buy them!! I'm always disappointed when I download a book that has had good reviews, only to find foul language and explicit sex, and I just can't read them, I'm put off by anything like that. So I hope I don't have to wait too long before there is a new Mary Higgins Clark book published!! Heather Hesketh.

Glad this MHC novel is at a reasonable 99p as it will encourage others to buy it. I bought my kindle copy some time ago as it is one of this authoress's earlier stories which are the best. It is a great shame two or three of her earlier books are not on Kindle as yet. always hoping to see at least one "The Cradle Will Fall" as that has been filmed twice as so good and which I consider her best. I envy those reading this book for the first time. Enjoy!!!

I'm a huge fan of Mary Higgins Clark! She really is the queen of the suspense novel! I found myself unwilling to put this down until I had finished the last page... Although one small criticism is that the prologue warned of dark times - I think that I may have preferred not to have read the prologue and just to start the novel at the point where Jenny meets Erich for the first time...
