An absorbing book 28 Mar 2009
Format:Paperback
There is much in this book that I admire; the author's skill in attending to minute details as well as an expansive knowledge of the Cotswold setting. Both are cleverly interspersed with her personal philosophy as to the nature of humanity. Thea, the heroine, is a strong, intelligent woman, who is quite able to cope with two murders which have been committed in close proximity of the house in which she is staying. She has not only the ability to pursue her own investigation alongside the police, but also the skill to evaluate the evidence. However, she has an underlying vulnerability that evokes compassion and sympathy in the reader. Thea is the book and, sometimes the plot is subordinate, yet does not suffer for it. I enjoyed 'A Cotswold Killing' very much and would not hesitate to buy another book by Rebecca Tope.

House sitters beware! 17 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback
I was fascinated to read a mystery set in an area I know so well. Tope is very good at bringing the area to life, and I found the story interesting and enjoyable, but sadly I found the book let down by the heroine. I'm obviously in a minority here, but I found Thea's self-centred and lazy attitude got on my nerves. Her behaviour as a house-sitter (doing the bare minimum because they'll 'never know' she didn't do everything she was paid for) is enough to put anyone off employing a house sitter & must be infuriating for any responsible house-sitter to read. She adores her own dog, but is careless of the welfare of other animals. Her general attitude seems to be that the world should revolve around her. I also found it a bit bizzare that, although her husband was killed in a car accident and she is supposed to be traumatised by this (the series partly deals with her coming to terms with her widowhood), she thinks drink driving and driving too fast for safety are ok. But if Thea doesn't annoy you as much as she does me, you will really enjoy this series.

Enjoyable read 19 Aug 2009
Format:Paperback
I purchased this book as I live not far from the village mentioned, and thought it sounded a good read. I enjoyed the book. It had a good plot, lots of village characters which I could relate too, a little bit of intreague, and the plot kept me interested to the last page. Overall a good book to take away on holiday if you like a mystery.

A Very Light Read
OK for a quick holiday read but this really is a poorly written book. Some of the characters are ludicrous and the plot laborious and far-fetched. Read more
