More About the Author

Mollie Lyons is a native of north-east England who moved to West Yorkshire in the late 1950s. Some of her early life was lived on a sheep farm in the wilds of Northumberland
She later moved into Newcastle upon Tyne to begin her nursing career. After marrying, she lived and worked in London but yearned to return to her beloved north.
Now widowed, she is still happily settled in West Yorkshire and loves its friendly people and beautiful countryside, which she finds so inspiring.
She has many interests such as history, writing, reading and the relaxing art of knitting. The periods she mostly enjoys writing about are from Georgian right through to pre WW11.
She would like to think that her stories are easy to read; the type to cosy up with on the sofa or have as a bedtime read.

5.0 out of 5 stars You won't put it down 25 Mar. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is an enjoyable novel set in Victorian Yorkshire. It does not take the author long to take you there in a believable manner, to become immersed in the ordinary lives of ordinary folk who have to deal with the extraordinary challenges of the daily grind. Everything is well researched and the narrative is easily readable. I would have liked to have known more about the characters and their inner thoughts but that is simply a personal preference in my reading.
Pick it up at your own peril - you won't put it down until you have finished it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Trip 4 Jun. 2012
What a delightful trip back to a time and place unknown to most American. Caroline and Danny Flynn struggle together to keep their lives above poverty and devastation. They encounter many different people, some helpful, some out to ruin them. The one constant in their efforts is the kindness of the man that secretly loves Caroline, but respects her reputation. I loved this story. Hope there is a sequel to show how the lives of all the characters are changed and refined. Nice read on a warm summer day.

A CONTRARY WIND. Just the right title for this atmospheric and fascinating book. From the first page I was hooked! Felt to be an onlooker,in there with them all and wanting to give my input. Descriptive with lots of detail of life in those hard times. I would recommend it and was so sorry when the last page was reached. Please continue and give me another book soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Contrary Wind 5 Jun. 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this book. Molly Lyons really draws you in to the challenging times in which Caroline and Danny live. Their relationship is heartwarming and she instills the reader with a massive respect and compassion for these central characters. I would love to know what direction their lives take after this. Any chance of a sequel?
