Format:Audio CD
It takes a moment or two to feel accustomed to the theatrical style of delivery but it's soon enthralling. Patrick Stewart throws himself into every nuance of feeling and atmosphere. Ordinarily I find Dickens a bit of struggle to wade through but the changes of tempo and tone make this a Christmas bedtime story with everything you could wish for.

This is an excellent performance of Charles Dickens' wonderful tome. I say performance because this goes beyond a normal reading of this classic tale. Mr Stewart performs each of the characters with aplomb, bringing humour, pathos, fear, and every other emotion possible to the inhabitants of this ghostly story. Patrick Stewart has performed this story in a one man show for years, and his knowledge and experience shine through at every turn.
For those unfamiliar with the story (where have you been?), it centres around a miserly businessman called Ebenezer Scrooge, who has does his best to keep all human affection away from himself, only interacting with those he has business with, which usually means bankrupting people. As a result, he lives a lonely, thrifty life accumulating money and no friends.
That is until he receives a visit from the spirit of his dead business partner, who informs him he shall be visited by three ghosts, who will reveal to him through visions of his life, from his past, present and future existence, the true meaning of Christmas, and thereby showing him the effects of his actions against those he meets, and offering him redemption by showing him how to life a good life of mercy, charity and love.
This is my favourite book, and as a result I have several audiobooks read by different people. This is my favourite.
