Product Description

A Festive Season …

Justin Stockton considered himself a reasonable man, and he made every allowance for the Laurence family’s recent bereavement during this Christmas season. Nevertheless the eldest girl Amanda seemed bent on infuriating him at every turn. Far from being grateful to him for offering to marry her docile sister in order to help the family out of its financial straits, she seemed to think he was a positive ogre. No matter his reputation for arrogance, Justin was hardly a wife-beater; although he wasn’t sure he could answer for his actions if he ever got his hands on the provocative Amanda. He would have to marry the firl off to poor sod – who would certainly have his sympathies – and the sooner the better, for his own peace of mind.

It was bad enough that Justin had duped her sweet sister into sacrificing her happiness, but when Amanda discover that he also had plans for her, it was time to set the insufferable gentleman straight on a few facts. The Christmas holidays, from the cozy family dinners to the resplendent Frost Fair on the Thames, would provide the perfect opportunity to demonstrate what life would be like with a sister-in-law such as herself. In fact, Amanda could promise him a very Merry Christmas indeed!

3.0 out of 5 stars A Christmas Affair 20 Jan 2014

I rated this book only 3 stars because although the basic story itself was charmingly romantic there were many misspellt and quite a few mistakes regarding English usage of words..
Miss Overfield should recheck her information of Britain as she would then discover Xmas trees were not used in Britain till they were brought here by Prince Albert, Queen Victoria.s husband. THAT was definitely not during Napoleonic Times. Rather was more than several decades later. It does so annoy me when authors do not check their histories correctly both in speech and culture of English life.
Secondly Father Xmas was not known in England either in Napoleonic Times.

5.0 out of 5 stars delightful Regency tale... 27 Dec 2004
By retroredux - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
this well written novel takes place in regency England. The heroine, Amanda, is the eldest sister of a large family-since her parents death, this smart, gutsy lady of 26 years (a bluestocking) has had to raise her younger siblings. The hero, Justin, is a good natured captain who fought with Amanda's brother and has to bring her sad news.

The couple are both opinionated and sparks fly. Justin is determined to do right by Amanda's genteel if impovished family. Both characters are sensible and down to earth-which is very refreshing since many regency heroines tend to be flighty, IMO.

A delightful Christmas read that can be enjoyed any time of the year. Miss Overfield is a great writer and I plan to pick up her other regencies. Fantastic secondary characters make this a near perfect book. I thoroughly enjoyed this romance and highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh What a beautiful story to behold and devour most passionately. 5 Jan 2014

I have just spent the last 6 hours reading this book from cover to cover. Thats how good it was. I found this story both beautiful and charming that I could not stop reading into the early hours of the morning.

Talk about on the edge of your seat kinda story. The romance between the two main characters (both whom I adore) seemed to intensify throughtout each chapter of this delightful story. There is no hanky panky in this story which in my opinion would have tainted it some. I believe this book should be savored over a few days instead of in one hit like I just did due to the fact that now I only have 3 hours left before I have to be up for work. Yes I am a sucker for good regency romance novels. The good thing is that I will most definitely be reading this again soon. Oh my and the most intense scene in this book for me was under the mistletoe. Sorry no spoilers here because you will just have to read it to find out wont you. Happy reading.
5.0 out of 5 stars THIS OLD WORLD DOES HAVE A LITTLE MAGIC.........J. RYAN 13 Aug 2014
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
THIS IS THE THIRD BOOK I HAVE READ BY THIS AUTHOR AND THIS BOOK WILL ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE. IT HAS A
LITTLE OF
EVERYTHING IN IT, FUN, ROMANCE, SORROW, DRAMA, HYJINX, AND GRIEF, BUT MOSTLY IT HAS "MAGIC". NOT THE
KIND CONCERNING UNEXPLAINABLE HAPPENINGS, THE KIND THAT MAKES YOUR HEART FEEL WARM AND HOPE
FOR THE FUTURE. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK, THIS AUTHOR IS A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH IN THE
AUTHOR WORLD, HURRAH FOR HER.
5.0 out of 5 stars Love With a Surprising Twist 23 Aug 2014

I enjoyed the story and the story line was easy to follow. I loved the way the author defined her characters, making them very believable. She drew the reader in and allowed to experience the many emotions her characters felt while struggling with their feelings for each other. The story had intrigue, suspense, betrayal, humor, sorrow, romance, and no explicit sexual scenes.
