This book is a wonderful, inspirational read. We've all dreamed of embarking upon some sort of life-changing experience, but how many of us have actually followed it through? Jannina describes how - after a good dinner and a few glasses of wine - she decided to walk right around the coast of Great Britain.
During her journey Jannina treks up and down steep cliff paths; walks though forests, bogs and quick-sand; navigates her way through (or around) industrial complexes, and along major roads where there is no alternative - all with the backdrop of everything the British weather throws at her. Anyone who thinks there is a "path" around Great Britain is woefully mistaken!
There are so many delightful vignettes of the wonderful, kind and eccentric people that Jannina meets along the way: farmers, fishermen, pub landlords, ferrymen, lifeboatmen and garage mechanics to name but a few. The best descriptions, though, are of her friends and family who valiantly take turns to drive the camper-van (aka "The Beastie") around the country after her, ensuring that she has somewhere to stay each night.
All in all a great read - highly recommended!
