Biography

New Politics’ self-titled debut, which came on via RCA in 2010, was centered on a singular motto. The Denmark trio, who uprooted their lives and relocated to Williamsburg after signing with the label, based everything on the notion of just saying “Fuck it.” The phrase wasn’t about apathy, it was about doing what felt right and making the sort of music they wanted to ... I recently saw New Politics in concert (more on that later). If you are unfamiliar with their sound, think Green Day but updated for the 21sts century. This is New Politics' second album.

"A Bad Girl in Harlem" (10 tracks; 33 min.--the US version does not come with the extra tracks) starts off with an infectious "Tonight You're Perfect" and the party is on! "Harlem" is another sing-along stomper. "Berlin" is an ode to that city (you might've expected an ode to Copenhagen, as the band originates from Denmark). "Stuck On You" is a piano-fronted ballad and one of the few moments where things slow down. Side A concludes with a rousing "Give Me Hope". Side B crashes in with "Die Together". Then comes "Goodbye to Copenhagen", which finds the band explaining why they left ("I feel like breaking out"). Towards the end of the album comes "Just Like Me", one of the very best songs on here (an irresistible sing-along). The album closes with the hopeful "Fall Into These Arms". At just over half an hour, this album flies by in no time, and you'll want to play this again.

I recently saw New Politics at the Bunbury Music Festival here in Cincinnati. The trio played a mid-afternoon set before a massive crowd at the main stage. Singer-frontman David Boyd was all over the place (literally, at one point climbing up the scaffolding), and the crowd just ate it up. The band roared through a 45 min. set, playing mostly from this album, including "Tonight You're Perfect" and "Just Like Me". It was one massive party, just plain ol' fun. If you have a chance to see these guys live, do not miss them!

I purchased this CD after seeing New Politics as a support act for Fall Out Boy recently. If you enjoy Fall Out Boy, Green Day, Imagine Dragons or similar then you will love this group too.

I absolutely love this album and New Politics but the case was slightly damaged where the CD sits on arrival.
