This amplifier is VERY heavy, surprisingly so for its size. It sounds wonderful. I stream all my FLAC files from a NAS through a Western Digital TV Live HD Media Player and use its optical output to keep the signal digital as far as possible. The Onkyo has high quality DAC's on board so the eventual analogue signal is very high quality. Beware that the unit has few controls & the remote even less! There is no standby mode and you cannot change the tone controls via the remote so it is not for lazy music lovers.

this receiver is superb, the dac converts digital to analogue smoothly, and with great clarity.i purchased an onkyo nds1 ipod dock to go with this receiver and i can,t believe the quality, compared to ordinary amps,my ipod music is now a pleasure to listen to.as mentioned in another review be careful as this amp is very heavy, but i suppose this explains the quality sound---enjoy.

The best value for money I've ever encountered in the world of hifi. Makes my Dynaudio standmounters sing! It needs a little time to run in and I've found it's quite sensitive to partnering equipment and cables (particularly analog) plus the quality of the mains power (responds well to filtering). Get it right tho and lets just say What Hifi's 3 star review should be taken with several pinches of salt.
