Biography

Slipknot singer Corey Taylor knew his band was destined for greatness. He also knew that it wouldn't come easy.

"When we were starting out, we had all these strikes against us," he says. "We were from Iowa, there were nine of us, we wore masks, we wore coveralls, we played metal. Hard metal."

"It was tough getting people to come out to Des Moines," ... Read more in Amazon's Slipknot Store

I bought this album 2 days ago in New York on Holiday. I used to hate Slipknot and think them just screaming. A friend got me into them via constant persuasion and then he burned me a compilation CD which had some Slipknot songs on ("Wait And Bleed", "Duality", "Spit It Out", "The Nameless" and "Pulse Of The Maggots") and I really enjoyed the brutal energy and power of them. I'm not a massive fan of most metal, but I do like some bands (System Of A Down, Arch Enemy, Trivium, Mastodon) and decided to buy a 'Knot CD, but didn't know where to start. Seeing as I've read all these things about their amazing live shows, and this was on sale, I decided to buy it and wasn't disappointed. Slipknot have got a great energy about their live shows and that really comes across in this CD. Corey Taylors vocals may be ragged but that's part of the appeal, it's rough, raw and incredibly exciting.
The intro is great with a false announcement that Slipknot won't be playing, then they take the stage to hammer the crowd with "The Blister Exists." And continute to tear apart the stage, hyping up the crowd, adding extra screams and basically beefing up studio versions. My favourite songs ("Duality", "Wait And Bleed", "People= §***" and "Spit It Out") sound twice as good live especially during "Spit It Out" with the "Zero bulls***" thing as Corey gets the crowd hyped up. To add to the brilliant live chaos there's rare tracks ("Purity", "Get This") and a fantastic drum solo from drummer extradionare Joey Jordison.
All in all, fantastic, great fun and a head-pounding pleasure to have in anyones collection of CDs, wether they be a hardcore maggot or metal newbie. Buy it, you won't be disappointed if you're looking for an exciting, fast metal album.

To be honest, the thought of a Slipknot live album scared me. I mean, this is a band who argueably base a largue part of their successful live performances on their stage show. When you watch the bands other live release, the superb Disasterpieces dvd, you can feel the intensity because you can see the band at work, the on stage antics of Shawn Crahn, Chris Fehn and Sid Wilson add the much needed energy to the sound. So without the visual aids, how does the live album compare?
Their new album has a big influence on the bands transition from a stereotypical 'nu-metal' band to a fully confident metal band. Tracks from the new album add an atmoshpere that has been missing from the bands live shows previously. The likes of Before I Forget, Vermilion and The Nameless. Corey Taylor finaly gets his chance to show his full potential as a vocalist with the adition of these powefully and perfectly sung creations. Even with these slightly softer works embeded within their present live shows, by no means has the band gone soft all together.
Their foundation material is also featured on this live show. Classic tracks that youd expect the band to play, Left Behind, The Heritic Anthem, Spit it Out and Wait and Bleed. Slipknot are still able to prove that they are just as aggressive as ever. Even with some of their new tracks they show their energy, Pulse of the Maggots and The Blister Exists show just how they prove themselves.
To be honest, this live album should be up there with the best live albums, in the league of Iron Maidens 'Live After Death' and Slayers 'Deccade of Aggression'. If Slipknot can keep up their consistancy with their live shows, there is no reason to think that they cant be as big as these bands some day in the future. This live album is by no means a disaterpiece, it is infact a masterpiece!

An album of greats from start to finish, without a doubt !
Live albums seldom go down well with the punters as they fail to capture the energy and heat of a live performance, however as with every other aspect of Slipknot they fly in the face of normalcy and release truly live album and managing to capture what is normally lost during recording – personality.
Take a stage, stick together nine different men, slap on a thick layer of alter egos, add personalities that cut then stick them in front of thousands of screaming fans and you have Slipknot doing what they love to do and that is perform.
The album captures the very essence of their live performance, packed to busting with their most infamous hits and long enough to make the listener feel the burn and believes they are really there.
The air is thick and heavy, yet through the whole of this album the energy flows through it, listen to this with the volume up and the lights out and your there, in the eye of the Slipknot storm.
Metal fans buy this one now, you’ll won’t regret it…..

A slipknot gig, a moment you live for, a truly amazing experience, and this is what has been captured here on this double disc live set. All the passion and sheer mentalness that is slipknot as they rip through classics like 'Wait and Bleed' and 'Surfacing' and some of the newer songs like 'Duality' and 'Before I Forget'. It even features a super rare track 'purity' that was only available on the very first release of slipknot's selftitled album before it was replaced by different songs, and of course, how could you forget a mind blowing drum solo from Mr Joey Jordison himself.
I would recommend this album to anyone who is into slipknot or metal/rock music at all, not until you hear them live do you really see what IS slipknot. This album features all of their best tracks taken from their 3 studio albums. A must have for any Metal collection!
