Perhaps every household in the country should be supplied free of charge with this item and those who fail to assemble it quietly asked to leave. I'm as thick as mince and I was able to construct it in a little less than an hour whilst drunk and listening to Tom Waits. The wine rack is now standing sturdy in the garage full of last years hand picked and home brewed elderberry and blackberry wine. A fine product; and so is the wine rack.

I am very happy with this item.
I paid £45 (price Oct 2013) and got a 90 bottle capacity wine rack which having shopped around, I know is decent value.

For such a low price per bottle capacity, you shouldn't expect handmade flawless craftsman perfection. It is a little rough around the edges (slots in the wood are not all perfect) but this is not a beautiful furniture piece wine rack, it is more a practical one and I don't really notice any flaws now it's built and full of wine.

Saying that I have owned a few all wood modular wine racks, and this looks far nicer and of good quality unless you are really scrutinising it up close. I was concerned about the sturdiness of this high capacity model fully loaded, but don't have any concerns now it's built and has 90 bottles of wine in it. It seems robust enough.

I'm a practical person who owns tools and I would guess it took me between 35 and 60 mins to build fully. I didn't find it difficult.

A big plus is the bottle spaces are well sized so it fits all manner of 750ml wine bottle styles, including the champagnes we had. I think the only 750ml wine bottles that won't fit are ones like the traditional Chianti fiasco bottles and novelty ones, such as those used by J.P. Chenet. I have had problems with other wine racks not being suitable for a number of common bottle dimensions that stray too far from a Bordeaux style bottle. Not a problem with this one.

Just a FYI. It's not a wine rack you can configure without restriction. I have had wine racks in the past that you can build into any width or height limited only by the number of pieces you own.

I read the reviews, noted particularly the negative few. I'm not the handiest and saw this as a challenge, in actual fact I only swore once. I laid everything out on a wooden floor and placed all of the shorter, 'grooved' pieces across two of the longer grooved pieces used as ends (forming the outer rectangle, then a few middle longer pieces before putting in pieces of wood (intersections - gave stability). Completed the criss cross structure adding wood as I did. Once all the metal structure was complete the rest of the wood could easily be inserted. Once you have all 99 pieces of wood skywards, fitting the top was simple using the nails provided, the longer pieces going over the shorter pieces, as the diagram suggests I started with the outer rows and the fixing diagonal struts. The holes seemed to match very well and I only bent one nail, fine because I had 5 left over. Start calmly and stay calm, do not force, I can see it might challenge the DIY challenged. It's solid as a rock, I think the best of all my racks, this is my 5th, unbelievable value. Sure the hardest I've had to construct but easily worth it.

Good product which was fairly easy to assemble once you got started. One of the wooden parts split when it was hammered into place but this has not really affected the wine rack to any great extent. Spare nails were also provided which came in handy as one bent when hammered into one of the tougher pieces of wood. The earlier reviewer who had problems assembling the rack must not have been particularly handy and should have bought a pre assembled one.

This is a good and sturdy wine rack but be prepared it will take at least 2 hours to assemble. Assembly is straight forward and fairly easy - just time consuming with wooden pegs, twisting metal frame and lots of nails.

I was slightly disappointed that I didn't get enough nails in the box, but not worth getting too upset about.

A good product for the price.

i bought this for my new house but its been sat in storage for a while. the final look is great and sturdy easily fixed to the wall with raw plugs and a screw for extra sturdiness. takes a while to build it comes with nails but i decided to use wood screws instead. its a good price if you tried to buy in a local shop it would be at least triple the price. I now which i had stained the wood before i built it but that's a personal preference, and thought i'd let you know it can be stained or varnished if you have the time.

Don't know what the first reviewer was doing as he complained bitterly about putting it together and only left 1* Well I'm leaving 5* for this item. Out of interest I had my young Grandchildren staying with me and although they had not got the strength to put the blocks over the metal bars they could tell me how to do it and show me how it fitted together - not bad for 6 & 8 years old when an adult could not manage it from the working diagram! All you need to assemble it is a wooden mallet to put the blocks onto the metal bars, then a drill, plugs and screws to fasten it to a wall for stability.

If you could fault it at all the openings are not suitable for half bottles but I just lay them over the top layer of full size wine bottles and they are very safe in that position - but then I've not seen a wine rack yet that takes half bottles.

So pleased with this item I am buying another from Amazon tonight as I desperately need it for my stock of home made country style fruit/veg wines as many have to be laid down for at least 2 years to reach perfection before drinking so at any time I have this years, next years and the year afters wine to store for drinking and some quick maturing kit wines for my cooking.
