It really saddens me that I am the first person to write a review for this superb, and ridiculously underrated album. This shows that not enough people have had the pleasure of listening to an original and thoughtful record, that shows Lydon in awesome lyrical form and the band creating a great melodic yet edgy sound.
For me, this shows that great music is not always found in the most famous or succesful albums. Far from it. All manner of themes are explored, as Lydon shows a mellower more ponderous side to his nature. Friendship against the odds is explored on 'Disppointed', which was a minor hit when released as a single. I have a personal suspicion that the song is about Lydon's relationship with Sid during the Pistols years, but who knows?
Other themes are expressed throughout the album, such as the class divide, relationship problems, hope and despair. In terms of the album's musical style, it is quite easy on the ear compared to Pil's early albums such as Metal Box. At the same time, it could never be described as comercial - so for me it strikes the perfect balance between raw punk energy and polished radio friendly rock, and has a great edgy indie-pop sound.
