This Is The Eminem Show, 31 Dec 2003
In many cases, 8 Mile is the Eminem show, inspired by his life and love for music, but 8 Mile seems to evolve beyond that.As an untrained actor, Eminem has a lot of obstacles to pass, but Director Curtis Hanson seems to have a grip on this and before you know it, Mathers is making a brilliant performance in his first movie. Set in '95 Detroit, 8 Mile is a story about a man having to overcome obstacles and culture trouble in order to earn his inspired dream of being a cult hip-hop artist. Jimmy "Rabbit" Smith (Eminem) lives with his mother (Kim Basinger) in a trailer park in the urban side of Detroit, and he is having a few problems with his life, his girlfriend has split up with him, he's living in a black cultured society and his anger is becoming more infumed as the days go by, so teaming up with the local rap battle spokesperson Future (Mekhi Phifer) Rabbit starts to let out all of his hatred and pain through his rhymes, whilst getting the girl (Brittany Murphy also making her debut) and trying to make a name for himself. Bonus material includes the making of the film including commentary from the cast and crew, other features include the music that inspired the film and the previously unavailable video for "Superman". For a man whose world lives in a music universe, this movie makes for a popcorn filled extravaganza, top notch stuff from the real slim shady. This is The Eminem Show!
