With 78 tracks from 8 classic albums on 4 Cds you get an awful lot of music by Lightnin' Hopkins for your hard cash.

The payoff is that this cheap as chips release has no liner notes tno track listing and .. well you add the rest.

The trade off is that the price is so cheap.

The real Gone label always have a remastered sound which is often a good thing- but maybe check out other reviews for a more rounded review?

Amazon have not listed the tracks so I have.

I've also put the albums on.
It's 2 to a CD of course but at this price we cannot complain?

The John Glenn in 'Happy Blues for John Glenn' is the American astronaut who circled the earth in Feindship 7 of the Mercury space programme. This was BIG news in the 'Sputnick' space race age.
I was in school when the headmistress walked in and informed the class of this feat.
The fact that my name is Glenn and I was sat next to a John when she did fixed it in my mind.

Any typos etc just add a note and I will correct toute suite?
American spellings of course.

I just love Lightnin' Hopkins. As a guitarist I find his style deceptively easy. It's not! Although I love Country/Folk Blues, his driving bass lines and 'typically' bluesy melody licks go straight to the soul. On top of this his voice is so deep and silky it's a joy. Despite living in an age of MP3 downloads I still like being able to handle and store CDs. The quality of the recordings is very high and if you are remotely interested in the blues you should buy these discs, sit back with your favourite tipple and be transported to a different place.

Lightnin' Hopkins was a supreme bluesman - he had it all, the voice, the muscianship, but most importantly the inventiveness. Eight quality albums in a few years illustrates just how productive this man was .., I however have another CD in my collection of a recording session around the dates of these albums, so he was even more productive..., heck there may be more.
I highly recommend you buy this if you in anyway like the blues, and / or a musician who wants to listen to a master at work.
