Product Description

Mirror
Fast-moving, intricately plotted story in which Boxer steals the show as the tough cop with a good heart.

Product Description
Two cases have pushed Detective Lindsay Boxer to the limit. A string of fatal arson attacks have broken out in San Fransisco. The targets have one thing in common: they are all rich, successful, married couples. With four couples dead, Lindsay is determined to put a stop to the killings and trace the murderer. Juggling cases, Lindsay has plenty on her mind. Michael Campion was a people's hero, a popular governor's son who publicly battled against a rare and debilatating heart illness. When he vanished without a trace one evening, his disappearance and the search to find him, dead or alive, hit the headlines daily. But the trail went cold very quickly. Now with a devastating new lead, Lindsay picks up the trail once more. But what is the link between the Campion case and the arson attacks? With the help of her friends and fellow Women's Murder Club members - Yuki, an attorney feeling the strain of a high profile court case; Claire, a medical examiner trying to balance her career and her pregnancy and Cindy, the reporter for a San Fransisco newspaper - Lindsay must race to find the suspects and stop the cold-blooded killers, and fast.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed - again, 28 April 2008
By E. D. Bowen (Kent, UK) - See all my reviews

I am a big fan of James Pattersons thriller books (not his fantasy books!) but my enthusiasm is beginning to wane.

I have found the last 4 (I think since Maxine Paetro started as co-author) Women's Murder Club books very lacking in substance, predictable and badly written.

I have this theory that he is allowing the other author to use his name but he is not contributing any longer.

I'm dreading the day when a second authors name appears on the Alex Cross books!

5.0 out of 5 stars As good as ever, 5 Mar 2008

Having read most of James Pattersons books and enjoyed them all including the previous six in this series, I was not disappointed. This book moves along at a cracking pace and the characters are well scripted and thought out. The way their lives intertwine is interesting and only serves to make the plot more believable. I felt that Lindsay Boxer took a bit of a back seat in this one, but this did not detract from the story which was brilliant. The basic presmise is a series of Arson attacks where rich couples are being burned to death in their own homes. I can't say too much more without giving away the plot, but needless to say it is a fast and furious ride to get to the whodunnit. If you have read the other books then read this one and enjoy. If you haven't read the others, then I suggest you do this in order starting with 1st to Die.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavenly, 17 Jan 2008
By KM (England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)
In the seventh Women's Murder Club novel, Lindsey Boxer and her partner Richie Conklin face two tough cases. The first - young political celebrity with a terminal heart disease, Michael Campion has been missing for the past 3 months but now the SFPD have a new lead on what happened to him. The team investigate the tip-off and arrest a prostitute for second degree murder. As they dig deeper into the story, the evidence gets thinner and thinner whilst another WMC member and district attourney, Yuki, must prove the suspect's guilt. In the second case, two young arsonists who go by the names of Hawk and Pidge beginning a string of murders where the victims, whose only slight connections are that they were all married, rich and have a kid in college, are tied up and then their houses are burnt down with them inside.

As well as Lindsey's investigations there is also the tense courtroom battle between rookie lawyer Yuki Costellano and veteran L Diana Davis. Then there's Lindsey's forbidden attraction to Richie and her on/off relationship with Joe. Claire Washburn is heavily (literally) pregnant and Cindy is there after a story at any cost, although she is probably the least mentioned character in this book. The mystery of who the killers are is not all there is to think about as there is also a lot of whys and hows in there too. The ending is a little predicable (for one of the cases anyway) but still does not disappoint or let the book down at all.

After the mess that was The 6th Target last year (one of Patterson's worst novels, I may add) I was so glad that 7th Heaven got the series back on track and I think it could even be the best of the WMC books yet. There is so much going on - but not too much to get you confused - which makes this a truly gripping and exciting read from start to finish.

Overall, I think this is a book fans of Patterson will absolutely love. I am a massive fan of JP and read everything he releases (apart from his romance and Maximum Ride books) and must say that the last few books he's released have been a bit of a let down (with the exception of the excellent Double Cross) so I was so glad that he was at the top of his game with this one and it has really made me look forward to the next book in the series now. Highly recommended.

I think that maybe this book is a show of how James Patterson is resorting to churning out new books every two months, without really coming up with a good way to end the story. Read more
