Manufacturer's Description

Neutral density filters, or grey filters, are used if too much light restricts creative possibilities. They reduce the light in accordance with their density;they therefore allow longer exposure times or more widely opened apertures. With a light intensity reduction of ten f-stops, this B+W Neutral Density Filter has a slightly stronger warm tone than the ND 106. Its principal field of application is the observation and documentation of industrial processes with extreme brightness, such as steel furnaces, incinerators, glowing filaments in halogen- and other bulbs. TIt is also used in video aplications to reduce depth of field. The filter factor is 1000x.B+W filters are made with Schott glass which guarantees the very highest glass quality. Good quality cameras and lenses are a major investment and at B+W we believe that if you should have the best quality filters. There’s no point in buying an expensive, optically superior lens, only to put a piece of inferior glass over the front of it!B+W filters all feature brass mounts, designed to fix the high-quality filter glass in position “for life”. Brass mounts won’t bind with your lens thread, or other filters – a major advantage over cheaper filters.

Should you want to create something a little different from the norm with your photography in normal light conditions then this will help do the job.
Obviously a tripod or some support for the camera is a must when using one of these filters.
Attached to your lens either directly or using a step up ring it will reduce the amount of light reacing the sensor by 10 stops.
This means you can get those milky smooth waterfalls or seascapes at most times of day in all but direct sunshine.
Make sure you compose the shot and focus before attaching the filter as it is so dark you will not clearly see the image through the viewfinder, allow for a bit of magenta cast by adjusting the white balance a little cooler (or do it later in post processing) and then take the shot.
When attaching or removing this filter, as with all filters, hold your hand under the filter as it is being attached or removed if the camera is on a tripod, should it drop onto hard ground it would be an expensive replacement.

Pro's
Very well made.
Brass screw thread.
Schott glass.

Cons
Slight magenta cast.
Expensive.

Expensive, but of very high quality. With this is attached to your Lens it s very difficult to focus, well impossible really, you have to focus with the filter off first, then reattach, a bit of a fiddle, and the use of a good tripod is necessary, or you'll move out of frame your subject. Take a light reading then set you exposure manually, a iPhone app/Android app will come in handy on your smart phone to work out your exposure time, you could also download a exposure chart too. Some experimenting and patients will reward you. you could try a cheaper make to practice first, then decide on the B&W? Why not go to [...] and search for ND110, you will see some stunning Photos taken with this Filter.

It is an expensive item, but it provides limitless creative possibility specially with running water e.g waterfall, torrent. A steady tripod is a MUST when using this item.
