Purchased this as it contains some ABRSM Exam Pieces & GRADED STUDIES for daily practice - Answers the perennial Q "AM I THERE YET?"
A necessary evil for those under pupillage as well as those venturing on their own who need a STANDARD to level up to... Provides a standard of measure of what is required between grades. This book covers Grades 6-8, I think - includes a good variety of studies by Drouet, Bach, Telemann, Berbiguer, Kohler, Bohm amongst others ... There is also a Book One that covers Grades 1-5.
These graded studies ensure one practices what is REQUIRED FOR the grade or where self taught - a STANDARD for practice and mastery.
Some of the pieces are exam pieces within the ABRSM syllabus. Hence useful to have.
Trevor Wye advices a holistic daily flute practice regime which incorporates graded studies on top of tone, technique and articulation exercises.
As I progress through Book 1, I can understand why studies are critical as it shows up the "gnomes" within each Grade which one is expected to overcome & master for the acquisition of the required skill. Starting to appreciate the graded studies - PURCHASED THIS AHEAD OF THE LEARNING CURVE. FOR NOW - NOT THERE YET. =)
