I am using mine on a Windows 8 Pro PC.

I did the following.

1)Download and Install the latest software for the receiver using google with the following "microsoft Drivers, software, and documentation for your product" don't use the software from the supplied disk.
2) Go to the control panel, device manager, right-click on the "unknown device" and select "update drivers", followed by "browse my computer for driver software".
3) Now, instead of pointing to the location in the provided folder search bar, click on the option below this, which reads "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
4) You will be presented with a list - scroll to the bottom of this, select "Xbox accessories" and click "next"
5) You'll see a new list. Scroll to the bottom again and the last two entries should be drivers for the "Wireless receiver". Select the last one (should have the later date of the two) and click "next"

At this point you'll receive a warning "by installing this driver blah blah blah". Just ignore this. Use the dialogue box as appropriate to complete the installation, which should take just a few seconds, and then all being well you will have a working wireless receiver immediately.

Then just pair your controller and play to your hearts content.

Enjoy. 😉

The instructions on here are worse than useless - having gone onto the option to choose another driver, there was no "Xbox" at the bottom of the list (it's displaying devices alphabetically).

Here's what you do:

Initially, download the driver from this Microsoft link: [...]

1. Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device manager
2. Choose the device that hasn't had it's drivers installed for it yet
3. Right click it, choose "Update Driver Software"
4. Choose "Browse my computer for driver software"
5. Choose "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
6. After it's loaded, choose "Microsoft" on the left
7. Scroll down on the right and the Xbox receiver (not the wireless play and charge kit, the next one) option should be there
8. Install that one, play your games.

Having read the reviews, when I got the receiver, I plugged it in, went to device manager and followed the driver installation from the youtube video.
I have windows 7 64bit and the wireless 360 driver was already available in the driver list so must come with the windows installation. I am using a 360 wheel and the receiver recognised it straight away.
A superb little device.

This is a great product but does have some quirks in the installation process. To install and use this on Microsoft Windows 8 and 8.1 do the following:

1. Plug the USB Wireless receiver into a powered USB 2 port on your PC.

2. Do not use the supplied software disc. The drivers ad software simply do not work correctly with Windows 8 and 8.1+.

3. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-wireless-controller-for-windows and download and install the latest software for the receiver. Select Windows 7 in the operating system drop down box and the 64bit version for 64 bit systems and 32 bit for 32 bit systems.

4. Go to <Control Panel>, <Device Manager>, then right click on the [Unknown Device] and select [Update Drivers],then [Browse my computer for driver software]. Do not use the resulting default address shown in the address bar.

5. Click on the option for [Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer]. A new pop up window will appear. Scroll down the list and select [Xbox Accessories] and then click [Next].

6. A new list will appear. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and select [Wireless Receiver] then click [Next]. If you see two entries at the bottom of the list for [Wireless Receiver] select the last one, with the most recent date and time stamp, then click [Next].

7. A warning message will appear "By installing this driver ……………”, ignore this message and continue. As soon as this process completes the Wireless Receiver will be working.

8. Then pair the Wireless Receiver and your Controller. This should take less than 5 seconds to complete. Once this has completed you should be able to use the Wireless Controller.

What;s not to like? Does what it says on the tin. Driver installation will no doubt present some people with problems, but the included sheet (clearly plagiarised from some forum or other, quite funny actually), which explains in very poor English how to install the drivers, is pretty much accurate. A proper driver would be nice, other than that, like I said, what's not to like? It lets you use your genuine Xbox 360 WL controller on your PC.

The picture shows a genuine xbox receiver, well im afraid it isnt.
It isnt recognised by windows, and i cant get the driver to install off the disc, windows wont recognise it.
The software it says to run, says it isnt trusted by windows and therefore wont let me install.

Absolutely rubbish

If i wanted a fake one where i have to spend hours trying to figure out how to work it then i would have just bought a fake one. I bought this one because i thought it was genuine.

I thought amazon had better standards than ebay, but clearly they don't.
