As suggested by other reviewers here, this is indeed one of the top prog rock recordings from the golden age of progressive rock. It's hard to imagine something like this being released these days -- fearlessly experimental, theatrical, all compiled by real live musicians. Wow, imagine that. The somewhat dated sound has held up well over the years, too. It still sounds fresh and vibrant, though the recording and production techniques are a bit creaky. A warning to prospective buyers: it appears that there is a version of this disc that has "Aegean Sea" as the first track. Avoid if at all possible; buy only the version with the tracks in the original LP order, commencing with "The System". What was the record company thinking when they messed with this? Shameful. Stick with the original beauty instead. My fond memory of this work: as a teenager, we'd light candles and sit around in darkened rooms listening to this, and inevitably someone would shout, "It's too scary, it's freaking me out, turn it off!" Har har. I sincerely hope that future generations of teens have similarly frightful times with this disc. It's really not satanic, but the kids do need a good scare now and then.

Okay - if you're a fan of Demis Roussos, latter-day Vangelis or Rain and Tears-era Aphrodite's Child.... TURN BACK NOW!

In some places, this album has some REALLY fine music and some very engaging melodies. However, some of the tracks (like "Infinity") are really weird, almost demonic, soil-your-pants style music! Spoken chants, insane ramblings - the works! If you like music that dares to tread on uncharted territory - you can do far worse than buying this CD!

Highlights - "Babylon", "The Four Horsemen", "Aegian Sea", "Infinity" and the 20-min "All The Seats Were Occupied".

Not recommended for people with weak hearts, strong religious beliefs or a taste for Celine Dion!

Based on THE REVELATION OF ST JOHN, "666" by APHRODITE'S CHILD is a substantial concept of intellegent, thought provoking Progressive Rock. Somewhat surprisingly firing them on all cylinders is keyboard wiz Vangelis and Euro warbler Demis Roussos. The album itself is of major importance, influencing alot of groups; Pink Floyd's "The Wall" and Genesis' "The Lamb" are evidence of this fact. The music explores every aspect and emotion from the Beautiful and Good to the Demonic and strange, the 20 minute "All The Seats Were Occupied" is one of the greatest Opus' of all-time, which strangely is a kind of Overture at the end of the album. "666" by APHRODITE'S CHILD is a Completely Original work of Mind-Blowing Progressive Rock, once you've listened to this unforgetable album, it will stay with you for the rest of your life.
