I remember watching this on TV many years ago and enjoying it, but the years have not treated it too kindly, or I have got more sophisticated as I have got older!
It is an average-type film of its sort, with certain actors obviously capable of doing a bit of swash and buckle, but the majority not knowing one end of a sword from the other!
As the previous reviewer has commented, Beau Bridges is not the ideal lead, but it is great to see all the star names having a final fling at this type of role.
However, the story has been twisted too many times, with switches in identity and the moving in and out of the prison cells becoming annoying. The director must have thought it a clever plot ploy in the hope it would keep the audience interested.
Overall, if you just want to sit back and relax in front of some harmless fun, then this will pass on nearly two hours or it would have done, if this version had not had over 10 minutes edited out. Namely, all of the nude scenes involving Sylvia Kristel (of Emmanuel fame at that time) and the georgeous Ursula Andress.
