I travel A LOT for work and part of my work requires me to always be connected. I use a variety of Anker's products while I'm traveling from city to city. I have phone cases, multi-port usb connections, and ofcourse one of their computer mouses. However, one of my favorite anker product-lines is their portable chargers. This is my second of their external battery chargers as I received my first one as a present. My initial charger was the Astro E5 16000mAh which I also like a lot, however, because it has two ports and some additional hardware (including a flashlight) the battery pack is quite a bit heavier. Being that I carry a laptop, an iPad, two phones, and usually a variety of notebooks and such while I travel i wanted a battery pack that wouldn't add much additional weight to my bag. This device was the perfect solution. It is sleek, lightweight, charges my phone SUPER FAST, and really easy to slide in and out of my bag without adding any extra bulk. Plus it recharges extremely quickly - i usually plug in at the office that way if i need a charge on the flight home i'm set. Overall, I highly recommend this battery pack for anyone who wants the power without the extra bulk/weight.

This is a review of the Anker® Astro E1 5200mAh External Battery (Black). The unit arrived in secure cardboard packaging with plastic cover wrap. (see photo). The package includes the External battery pack, a Micro USB cable, and instruction manual. It is a credit to Anker to provide an 18 month warranty on the unit. This is plenty of time for many recharge cycles to put the unit through it’s paces.

The Anker® Astro E1 5200mAh External Battery (Black) is compact with a smooth plastic finish. It exhibits high quality construction like other Anker products I own. (Anker® Multi-Angle Portable Stand for Tablets 7-10 inch). The unit will easily fit in your pocket or purse for easy transport. The battery pack is just over 4 oz. and small enough fit in the palm of your hand. (see photo).

The battery pack features PowerIQ circuitry which will detect your device and provide the highest compatible amperage to charge your device delivering up to 2 amps at 5 VDC. By comparison, a USB port typically delivers 0.5 amps at 5 VDC. The Anker Astro E1 is compatible with both Apple and Android smart phones and tablets

I was able to fully charge the Anker Astro in about 4 hours. Leaving it over night to charge is convenient. The unit was 50% charged out of the box. A full charge in indicated by the 4 LED dots lighting up on the face of the unit. With the Anker Astro E1 fully charged I was able to charge a fully discharged iPhone 5s in 2.5 hours and I was able to fully charge the iPhone a second time. The second full charge of the iphone took 2.0 hours. I then recharge the Anker Astro E1. With the unit fully charged, I was then able to charge my Nexus 7-2 from 5% to 92% in 3 hours. Thanks to Anker for providing me with a review sample to help me write this honest review.

When I received the product, the first thing I noticed was the beautiful and simplistic packaging that comes with all of Anker's products. The box came with the battery, and a decent sized micro USB cable to charge it, as well as some other informational papers. The box also came with some instructions for using the product, but since this product was so simple and easy to use, I didn't seem to need them. I do however recommend looking through them in case there is some important information that you didn't already know.

I first notice how beautiful the product looks. It's black, smooth and has a shiny finish to it. It has a heavy quality feel to it, and looks very simplistic. All it has on the outside are 2 USB ports of different size for charging the battery and charging other devices, 4 blue LED lights to show the charge percentage, and one button to activate the lights and power.

The usage is simple. Make sure the device has a charge, plug in your USB charging cable(in my case a Apple lightning cable), to the large USB port, press the button on the side till you see the lights light up, and plug it into your device(in my case an iPhone 6). It charges very fast at 2Amps, that's basically how fast the fastest wall outlet chargers will charge.

The ideal users for this product are for people who's phones run dead a lot during the day. Just slap this thing in your pocket, bag, or office desk drawer and not have to worry about finding a wall outlet later. Read more ›

Im a California Girl here, But Anker asked me to post my review for you all to see as it may be applicable for some of you.
I was supplied a sample for test and evaluation, and I promised that my review is fair and honest.
I'm a college student. I leave the house at 8:30 a.m M-F. I spend 30 minutes in the morning watching videos on my iPhone 6 plus just waiting for the bus alone. My battery at this point is down to 95%. I spend another 45 minutes on the bus still watching videos, playing games, or just surfing the internet. I get to school my battery is in the 85-80% range. I get to wait another 20 minutes for my class and that shaves another 5% from my phone.

4 hours into my classes my phone phone is below 50% and I never want my phone to be dead. At the end of the day I still have to use the public transit system to come home. While Sunnyvale California is relatively safe you never know when you or if you need your phone for an emergency. So I plug my phone into my handy dandy Astro E1 5200mAh and my phone is good to go. While the charging doesn't bring my phone up to 100% instantly it does bring it up to full in the last hour I'm in class. I've used Anker products for years now, their products are always top-notch and they provide excellent customer service.

What I like about the E1 5200
1) The size. The product is about the size of a pill bottle.
2) The design. The product is solidly built and made of plastic.

What I didn't like
1) as a few others have stated the lack of an outlet charging block
2) I am an iPhone user. I don't like having to carry cords for things i don't use. I would love a lightning cable version. One that can charge the unit via the lightning cable. Read more ›
