I'm an intermediate player, having been playing seriously for around 6 months. Having read many other books on backgammon as well (including many from the 1980s), I did find quite a few new tips here as well that had not been covered elsewhere. One of its strengths is that it is bang up to date, and Backgammon has changed a lot over the last few decades, with the advent of stronger computer programs. The book covers chequer moves, doubling strategy, special rules (such as Crawford and Jacoby) and advice on playing online and in tournaments. The two authors are very well qualified in the subject and the book is clearly set out. One problem - several of the diagrams have mistakes in them, and one in particular seems to be relating to a completely different problem to the one being discussed! Hopefully this will be resolved in future editions, and you can still get the flavour of the advice from the text. I don't think this book is meant for beginner, but I'd still recommend it to intermediate players like myself. 4 out of 5.
