Cooking Mama (Nintendo DS)

Amazon.co.uk Review

Cooking Mama challenges players to use the stylus as a master kitchen tool to cook 76 real world dishes ranging from pepperoni pizza to cabbage meat rolls. Players use the stylus to chop, slice, pan fry, knead, grate, mash, peel and more. Under Mama's watchful eye, players must first prepare ingredients, then combine, cook and present the final meal all via the touch screen. Players can even cool down dishes by blowing into the DS microphone.

I wanted to buy a DS game for my friend for christmas, but the one i was looking for was sold out everywhere. I spotted this game and thought it looked like fun - I ended up ordering a copy for me too.

Within the first few minutes, i was disappointed with the game - it wasn't what i expected.

I imagined there to be a storyline to it and thought that it would be rubbish without one - however, after playing for 5-10 minutes, I was hooked, it really is a fun, addictive game that is worth buying - especially at the price its selling for.

I would recommend this game to anyone really - its easy enough for younger children, but can also be challenging for older players.

This is a very good game for any age, although after a while it gets a bit repetitive. Also, you cant make any desserts, which is a downside because I LIKE SUGAR! But apart from that it is a very fun, addictive game, though i recommend that you practice first in the skills section. If your friends get jealous then you can let them download the recipe for a burger, which is good fun as you can use as many French fries as you want... YUM! By the way, does anyone know how to finish the game? I have got all the food a gold medal and nothing has happened!

Initially I thought I had bought a dud when I got this. I found it hard to understand what to do...but then I wasn't reading the top screen so it was my fault!

Now I have got into it, it really is quite good fun. It is a very safe game for all the family. My 5 year old lad loves it and happily chops, cooks and grates away. He particularly likes cutting the squid!

It is not taxing on the old noggins in any way, just a pleasant way to pass the time. It makes full and clever use of the DS stylus so it really does make the most of the touch screen's capabilities.

I guess older kids will tire of it quickly as there is no story and it can be frustrating if you can't get the gold medals, but for anyone else that just wants something to while away the time with, I'd say try it!

This game is great. When i got it i didnt know if it would be a bit childish but it really isnt. Some of the things you have to do are really challenging and you find yourself playing again and again determined to beat a previous score. There are loads of different dishes to make and you get a rating of bronze silver or gold on each one. It has lots of playing value trying to get the best you can. I would definitely recommend this game if you like to just pick a game up and play it without having to get really involved.

At first I struggled to enjoy this, but after a short while (killing time on a flight) I got hooked. Once you master the cooking skills like chopping, slicing, kneading etc you will enjoy trying the recipes and unlocking new ones on completion. My 5 year old daughter (whom I purchased it for originally) enjoys this too after a short lesson from me!Even my mum was chopping and mixing and she hates the grandkids DS consoles!

Got this game on the strength of the advertisments. Have to say for the first 2-3 weeks, I couldn't put it down as I attempted to unlock all the new recipes..

However once all the recipes had been unlocked (about 50-60), all that was left to do was to try and improve your ratings for each one.

Plus the multiplayer option is just one dish (burger), so no life in that either..!

Despite this, it is still worth getting for a month or so, then trading in for a new one..

To begin with:
The tiny, three line reviews ive read on here so far dont do this game justice. So i decided to wrote my own.
Price: It cost me #19.99 from Game. Even cheaper on amazon ;-)
...Anyway. I had seen the advert for this on tv, and wanted it straight away. As soon as i had bought my nintendo ds, i bought this game as well.
Some people are confused by the fact there are no 'levels' as such, like most games. You dont have a character, or choose a name. It is what it says on the box- a cooking game! You can choose to practice a skill first, which i reccomend. You can try frying, peeling, grating, an get ready for when you want to...
COOK! Choose from a long list of foods to cook. Then follow cooking mamas step by step instructions (each stage is timed, to add excitement, and frustration! :-)
In this game you only ever use this stylus/pen. The buttons are pretty much obselete. It is very satisfying, hands on game.
I would not reccomend younger children to play this game- there is some reading, and it can be very frustrating for people with short attention spans.
However, if you like the sound of it, you will probably like playing it too! 85% recomended!

I bought this game of ebay simply because i wanted something different to play on my ds.I read a few reviews and thought id give it a try.Cooking mama is mainly a cooking game hence the name.basicly you have to prepare meals in a set amount of time to please mama and once completed you unlock new recipies.they varie in difficulty so theres some thing for everyone.you have to chop veg and arange the plates and grate cheese using the stylus.i have played it a good few times and think its great for its money.my 26 year old fiance loves it and i find myself having to grab it when hes asleep just to have a go on it.well worth it if you want something like no other!
