This film is a brilliant adaptation of the story. With such talented actors such as John Cleese and Sam Neil.it is thrilling and has you on the edge of your seat at most points. With real animals and beautiful scenery this film is a true classic. It includes humour provided by King Louis-the king of the swingers!! the star of the show of couse is the multi talented Mr Lee! who is sheer brilliance, his portrayal of the character is beautiful to watch. You have to watch this film in order to understand what i'm saying..trust me it is magical, believable and extremel well made.

A wonderful representation of the Jungle Book, exciting and adventuresome, with marvellous animal features and scenery throughout.
Although the cartoon will always have its admirers - me included! - this film is by far and away the best version for both adults and older children.
I was spellbound enough to buy it from having seen it by complete chance over the usual Christmas viewing. A happy find I can heart-warmingly recommend to others!

Jungle book in its own author's context
This version of Kipling's text takes us closer to the situation of the time it was written; Colonial India. The greed and arrogance of the British is aptly portrayed, and some of the actors add to the irony of «The White Mans Burden». The love story is quite convincing, and the film aims and succeeds in looking beyond the folly of its own time. I can recommend this film.

This film wonderfully captured the excitement. confusion, terror and more in a beautiful jungle.

I had only watched the cartoon, I now feel compelled to read the book.

Oh you also learn how to pronounce the animals names correctly! :-)

Well i never thought i would enjoy another Jungle Book as the original is ACE the re-makes are ok, this is the best I've seen in a long time. Steven Sommers needs his hand shaken and praised for all the hard work put into this film, the trainers of the animals also need praise and bowed down to for such gorgeous and well trained mixture of animals, the actors are a gem of a crew just at ore watching Jason Scott Lee with his BODY and looks, everyone deserves a standing ovation well done, will buy it for my family now that I've seen it and enjoyed it so much. Can't wait to watch it again with them.

That this film seems to have disappeared into obscurity beats me. The acting of the animals - particularly the monkeys is brill and the mowgli character is very enjoyable to watch. Buy it. You can't regret it at this price.

More than any other film adaptation this portrays the real lesson and meaning behind Kipling's masterpiece
It is perhaps the least faithful to the book in terms of plot i have seen, perhaps owing more to Tarzan than to the jungle book itself.
Unlike the earlier cartoon adaptation that follows the plot of the book but doesn't really include any of the subtext and layers of meaning. Man's struggle with nature and our own self destruction in the pursuit of wealth.
Some of this films plot does come from some of the short stories originally published with the jungle books such as the The King's Ankus

Well recommended regardless
