Don't get me wrong, this is a good reference to a few attractions and although 501 sounds a lot it's actually not once broken down into areas throughout the UK - and some are no longer open to the public or only at certain times of the year, so always check online first before planning a visit! We've now ordered the newest edition of The AA guide to 1001 Family days out, see how we get on with that book!
