Solwise Description: The Solwise HomePlug 500AV adapters operate on the HomePlug Powerline AV Specification standard allowing you to use the 500AV adapters on your existing 200AV network. The PL-500AV-PIGGY uses the Atheros (Intellon) AR7400 chipset which is optimised for streaming high definition media applications. The AR7400 includes a faster processor, high speed interfaces and an analog front end (AFE). With these added high performance abilities, the PL-500AV is perfect for the ultra-high speed High Definition entertainment network in your home. It is also perfect for areas that are hard to reach by wireless connections. With a plug and play installation, you can easily combine all of your AV electronics together and instantly enjoy your Entertainment Center from virtually any room in your home. Combined with a broadband DSL/Cable connection, every room with electrical power outlets will have easy access to high-speed Internet connection. As with all our HomePlug AV products, this PL-500AV-PIGGY is equipped with 128-bit AES security encryption. Combining the private home power grid and the 128-bit AES security encryption, this PL-500AV is extremely secure compared to other technologies such as WiFi. Remember, you will need at least two HomePlug devices to form a HomePlug connection, these units are sold as singles. More HomePlug AV/Gig devices can be added to further share your network. 1m cable included

Was having problems with my wireless system at home. Read as review of home plug so thought i would give it a go. Simplest and most straight forward bit of kit i have ever purchased for my computer!
Bought two - one on the router and other into the computer that was having dificulty connecting. Just pluged them in straight out of the box and it goes and works.
4/5 and not 5/5 The only negative - both plugs came with a CD - both were damaged so unable to use the manual or software - however after contacting the homeplug website this was resolved.

A pair of these 500AV's work faultlessly together. However I had 2 existing 200AV's from a different manufacturer and struggled to get them all working together. This was resolved by connecting each one directly to a PC through the utility and ensuring that the network name was the same for each plug. Then just plugged all (2x500AV's and 2x200AV's) in and all are happily working together.

This product works very well at short range, ie across two floors. Bought because wireless internet very intermittent across three floors and was persuaded that this product could solve the problem- it didn't. Needs to be on SAME ring to be effective:- falls to pieces if signal path has to go via a sub dis. board (same house-4 storys). May be something to do with use of circuit breakers (the internal short-circuit protection solenoid/coil forming high impedance to data stream?). Distribution boards that use fuses (rewirable or cartridge) maybe doesn't affect data stream? Bottom line is that it didn't work for me. Ironic that product has same (limited)range as has the existing wireless system. Service and delivery superb.
