(Full disclosure: I received a review copy of this book from Sterling Publishing.)
Graham Leslie McCallum has brought together a great collection of floral and plant motifs which readers can use for their own creative work. (Yes, folks, these images can be reproduced.) Although the book is obviously predominantly comprised of images, the introduction by the author is very welcoming and encourages readers to dive into the creativity of the work. The book is organized into sections to make it easier to find the "look" you are after for your finished project. The sections are:
Mesopotamian
Egyptian
Greek
Romanesque
Byzantine
Medieval
Islamic
Chinese
Japanese
Folk
Art Nouveau
Art Deco
Flowers
Leaves
Fruit
Vegetables
Nuts, Seeds, & Cereals
Trees
Borders
Each motif is lettered in the book, making it easy to find on the CD. The CD was easy to install on my Mac, and there are clear instructions about how to save images (which are saved in .tif format) onto your computer. The images look clean and since they are basically just black outline on white, will print easily. You have to have the CD available to access the images which aren't saved onto your computer already.
This would be a great reference for an embroiderer, quilter, woodworker, paper crafter, or any artist or crafter who finds inspiration from motifs.
