Product Description

Product Description

Contemporary and unique, these handmade creations range from representational to abstract, from skillful realism to provocative surrealism - and they're made from every conceivable material, including beads, gourds, and polymer clay. Judge Akira Blount, a pioneer in the art doll movement, incorporates vines, twigs, and carved wood in her fabric dolls; with their expressionless faces and closed eyes, they appear absorbed by inner worlds. Dutch artist Marlaine Verhelsts porcelain designs seem to have sprung straight from a medieval painting. Chris Chomicks strange and slightly scary figures feature amazing detail and elaborate costumes. Dollmakers, crafters, collectors, and anyone who loves beautiful objects will love the amazing diversity showcased here.

Izzy the Healer 9 Mar 2008
Format:Paperback
This is a sweetie shop of a book. I spent an afternoon drooling over the wonderful, and sometimes weird, creations. It is great to be able to see what other doll makers are doing, and the diversity of styles is amazing. It is a gallery of wonderful dolls NOT a "How To" book. The only thing I would have liked further is an explanation of what the artist was trying to say with this doll. Some of them are obvious, but the names of others are confusing. this is my only complaint.

500 handmade Dolls 17 Feb 2008
Format:Paperback
This book is gorgeous.Inspiration for the aspiring dollmaker. The photography is good and with careful looking you can see how the dolls are made. There are no instructions or text about the doll artists which may or not be a good thing. The dolls speak for themselves and this is the best book I have had

Gorgeous Book 14 Feb 2011
Format:Paperback
This is a gorgeous book, packed full of good quality photos, with a note of the artist and materials used for each doll. The dolls within are truely amazing and listed by type. If you love dolls, you'll love this book.
