Book Description

26 July 2013 500 Series
The book is a perfect union of form and function, and as such has proven to be endlessly adaptable to aesthetic and technological innovation. The books selected to be included in this follow-up volume to the popular 500 Handmade Books, represent the unlimited creative possibilities for interpreting an enduring form - books as objects and books as sculptural pieces. Along with more traditional, richly embellished books, other featured works push the boundaries such as books that unfurl, scroll and flip, created not only with lush, handmade papers, but also with more improbable materials like metal, fabric, wood and glass.

A brilliant and inspiring book for artists or for anyone who loves making books. So many ideas, so inspirational. Every art college, library, illustrator, artist should have one on their bookshelf. The second volume is better than the first. Be careful though, keep it under lock and key. Everyone wants to take mine.

Good source of inspiration for future projects, compliments Vol1. Widens the range of future projects and makes onethink outside the box.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Book 9 Sep 2013
By C. Congrove - Published on Amazon.com

Lovely book...but, I also have the first volume, and I have to say I prefer that one because the books selected are more diverse in style. I'm certainly not sending this book back because it is still an amazing reference book. I just wish there was a little more variety in style, theme, color and content.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice selection of Artist Books. 2 Oct 2013
By B. Julien - Published on Amazon.com

I appreciate the changes made from the first volume of 500 Handmade Books but I would take it even further to give more of a description of each book. I would also like more photos of each entry to give a better idea of the complete structure.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's beautiful but... 20 Mar 2014

It's like a 415 page museum of the most beautiful handmade books you'll probably ever see. But you won't get any help with making your own. The photographs might give you an idea for a structure that would work for something you have in mind. But you won't learn a thing about how to make them. If you know how to make a star-book, a Chinese sewing box, a double concertina, a double tunnel, or a flexagon - you're going to love this. If you were hoping for help with learning those, it's not in this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dissappointed 10 Oct 2013
By Sarah S. Harvey - Published on Amazon.com

The books were not as original or inspiring as the last 500 Handmade Books Volume. And although I admire the author for wanting to get as many artists represented as possible, it felt crowded.

...as this book will attest to,
but I would have preferred less than 500 books
to have more details on each book.
the softCover edition is indeed wellMade.
