Product Description

Product Description

Interest in bookbinding and the related arts has exploded in the past decade, inspiring artists to explore the unlimited possibilities of the form - and delighting collectors, crafters, and gallery owners. This new and provocative on-the-page gallery, richly illustrated with hundreds of breathtaking photographs, will appeal to that same large and discerning audience. Theyll appreciate the artistry of a finely tooled leather cover, embellished with traditional gold-leaf lettering; the intricacy of an exotic Ethiopian binding with a show-stopping open spine; and others that resemble mysterious puzzle boxes, or books that curl, hang and swirl. The sublimely talented contributors all put their finest work on display: Jeanne Germanis Cloudspeak showcases her own handmade papers, made from such varied materials as recycled denim, thistle, and other plant matter. Chris Bivins codex-style volume features curious, tiny, found objects. One of Laura Waits untitled pieces utilises a handsome raised-cord binding to connect a pair of stained-cedar covers with abstract aluminum letterforms attached. A beautiful collection to awe and inspire.

This book is fab, it's full of so many different book designs! It isn't the kind of book that teaches you how to make them, they are finished versions of many artists books. As the title states, there are 500 different books in this one and it shows as you go through it! They aren't just bare books, each one has been created for it's own use so they are individually full of different designs. Some are made out of favric, some out of wood, one has even been made out of a computer circuit board! This book was able to greatly inspire me during my course at university as i saw a book creation inside that i thought would go great with one of my projects. One to have

I know the book does not give any instructions but as a person who likes to create things, I found this book to be an inspiration for ideas. There are plenty of other books out there which do give instructions but it is nice to see a gallery of ideas on how you can decorate your books once you have made them. Transferrable ideas too as designs can be used for card making or other creative projects. I loved it.

I love this book! It is slightly frustrating that it is just photos of finished items which little clue as to construction (just a a descriptive line),however, it is a beautiful book.
