This book has chosen some very nice locations for its walks in Essex, and has some interesting facts about the history behind the walks.
My big problem with the book is that the directions are just so difficult to follow - take the cross-field path, or turn right at the avenue of hornbeams - what if you don't know what a hornbeam looks like (as I don't !). We did a walk today in Weald Country Park, and I really don't know how much of the intended path we followed as this is a open parkland with many paths !! We had a nice walk, nonetheless !
Some other problems we had encountered were where some of the signposts to the starts of walks were either overgrown or broken.
In order to improve it, the authors should really have taken photos of key points on the walk, or maybe given Compass bearings, or just chosen easier routes to follow.
I'm going to try the other book to see if that's any better.
