Product Description

This guide offers over 50 walks around the Cotswolds, including Chippi ng Camden, Shipton on Stour, Chasleton House, Sherbourne and Wychwood Forest. A range of walks are featured to suit both the casual walker and the hiker, all between two and ten miles (3.2 to 16km) in length. Each walk takes a particular theme: wildlife, history, countryside, and following in the footsteps of the famous. A location map is included to indicate the starting point of each walk and the route to take, with clearly marked topographical features to guide you. Information on footpath signs, countryside access, walking tips, safety guidelines and dog-friendliness is included, and details include refreshment panels highlighting tea-room and pubs.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing quality of walks, 17 July 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: 50 Walks in the Cotswolds (Paperback)
We felt the background to the walks was informative and interesting - also tips on where to eat but of the 6 walks we completed, we managed to get lost on 5 of them! We felt far more information needed to be provided about directions and the fact that footpaths were poorly signposted and badly maintained did not help. Our main complaint was that the walks were often not all that inspiring. The villages, yes, are very beautiful, but the surrounding countryside was often nothing special certainly not as lovely as our Sussex walks. Maybe we picked the less interesting ones and missed out on the best?

4.0 out of 5 stars Good directions but you'll need a proper map, 7 Jan 2008

This review is from: 50 Walks in the Cotswolds (Paperback)
The walks are described clearly, and the reference points on the walks I have done have been easy to find, even though a couple of times it would have been easier to say "follow the waymarked path" rather than navigating by stiles and streams. The only drawback is you will definitely need a proper map to go with this book as the sketch maps aren't enough to navigate by. The book tells you which map you'll need for each walk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really helpful, 16 April 2006
This review is from: 50 Walks in the Cotswolds (Paperback)
due to legislation about landowners being required to maintain public access properly now in force. Only done one average walk so far but after going out with some apprehension found the book accurate and helpful without having too much info.
