I have marvelled at these beautiful noise merchants since 1990ish. Granted, this album doesn't quite make me feel like I did hearing the song 'Not Listening' for the first time all those years ago, but my word this lot are consistently good.
I shall not write a longer review as to be totally honest, I have a cat sleeping on my lap and typing is awkward. However this album is a great way to initiate new followers whom I hope will move on to discover the previous Snuff treasures. Loud and excruciatingly harmonic. I want to tell the world "I have a mancrush on Snuff!!!"

Please buy.

.... a new CD by Snuff appears. It's been a long time and a lot of things change. Since Snuff last put out a significant release I've changed jobs, moved house (several times), became seriously ill, got better and got married. So I had no reason to expect 5-4-3-2-1...Perhaps to be listenable, either because I had moved on, or Snuff had, or the world had. First thing: this IS a Snuff record and no mistake. It is instantly recognisable and not much has changed; this is a GOOD thing.

The first listen, with all that weight of expectation, was a bit flat in a "so what?" way. However, this is a grower, and after a few more plays it expands into a good, and in places great, set of songs. I sense a bit less humour and a bit more melancholy than there used to be - or is that just me?

This isn't the place for a track-by-track review, but a few highlights include: the opener, "In the Stocks", confirms that Snuff are back and never left, the wistful "There Goes the Waltzinblack" and "Bones for Company" are the highlights for me, and the bonus acoustic versions of "In the Stocks" and "EFL" make a great closing contrast.

I've read some distinctly luke-warm reviews saying Snuff haven't evolved and others saying they don't sound as good as the old days. I think they've changed just enough to make a record true to their past, while acknowledging that we're all older and a bit different, if not a bit wiser, than before. Buy it.

Longtime fan of Snuff but got to say this is no great shakes...no classics on here for future compilations. Saw them for the first time in 20 odd years last year at Rebellion Festival and they were ace..they still cut it live! Sorry Duncan, but must do better.
