For use with the Nintendo Wii games console. The Wireless Sensor Bar provides a compact and wirefree solution to enhance your gameplay. It can be positioned almost anywhere, ideally above or below your TV set, which makes it an excellent choice for wall mounted TV sets. Up to 30 hours of battery life via 6 x AA batteries
This bar is about double the thickness of the standard bar provided with the Wii but it does what it says on the tin. It runs on batteries so the main issue is when the batteries die out in the middle of a game. However, using good quality rechargeable batteries fully charged before each session ensures no mid-game failures. Otherwise it is a great solution for wall mounted TVs that are some distance from the console. This is a really useful accessory to give added flexibility to your gameplay.
Although I have the proper wired sensor bar that comes with the Wii, I occasionally take my wii round to friend's houses and use it on other tvs in the house - and this wireless bar is perfect for such occasions. Whilst it is a little hungry on the batteries (I'd suggest buying a few packs of rechargeable batteries) and a bit bigger than I expected, it works perfectly with no problem at all to set up (just press the on button). Apart from the Wii itself and the controllers, this is probably one of the best accessories I have bought and would have no problem recommending it for use as a secondary sensor bar for when you are using your Wii away from the normal tv you use it on if you don't want to have to unplug and reposition the wired sensor bar all the time.
This sensor works just as well as the official sensor that comes in the box, which is very comforting just in case i break the old one i will still be able to play wii sports with my pals. However i would strongly urge you gather some rechargeable batterys as this will eat through duracells like a hummer does to petrol.
writing this review using the internet channel and the sensor bar. six batteries is a bit much, but the bar is just as responsive as the wired version. if you've got a wall mounted tv or just want minimal cables this is essential, and it works straight out of the box.
I bought this in late Jan 09. It worked fine up until last week (July 09) - It seems to only have a pathetic 5-6 months life. I am set to complain to 4gamers. Buy it if you wish to have a short term fix - also be aware of the 6 batteries you have to use to power it - they go pretty quickly too.
I definitely would not recommend this item. I've owned it for about 3 months now and I have to put new batteries in it practically every other time I use it. It may be cheap but I don't think it's fit for purpose. Shame i can't enter no stars as a rating. Avoid!
Very simply it does what it says on the box. Inserted batteries, worked first time no setting up required, seems to work better than the original sensor.
Anyone who own a Wii console will be familiar with the sensor bar that comes included with the console. The bar usually sits on top of your TV screen and is used to track the movement of the Wii controller so that this is accurately replicated on screen. The sensor bar comes with a ridiculously long wire, which is very thin and not at all user friendly, as I found out when my kittens bit through it! Without my sensor bar, I would not be able to play games on the Wii, so I trawled through Amazon looking for a replacement. The 4 Gamers Wireless sensor bar immediately caught my eye, especially as it would have no wire for the kitties to chomp on.
The bar is ridiculously cheap at (£), and I was not expecting anything great for that price, however, the sensor bar only has to provide a light source to work (apparently you can also use lighted candles on top of your TV if your sensor bar breaks), so why should it cost a lot? I was very pleased with this product when it came.
The bar is basically a white plastic bar, which measures 9.5 inches long. It has a black strip along the front and a small black button in the centre, which switches the light on and off. When switched on, a small blue light appears in the centre of the bar. Underneath the bar are two rubbery grips to keep it steady and a removable panel for inserting the 4 AAA batteries that power the device. You insert the batteries, pop the bar on top of the TV, switch on the light and you are ready to play!
The bar works really well when playing Wii games and is an accurate sensor when you are pointing the remote at the screen. The bar is very convenient if you are taking the Wii to someone's house, as there are no awkward wires to deal with.... It also minimises the amount of wires behind your TV that can get tangled up. I have had the bar for about 18 months now and it is still working really well.
The only downside to the bar is that it is VERY heavy on batteries. To cope with this, you really need to invest in a pack of rechargeable AAA batteries and a charger, otherwise this bar will cost you a small fortune to run. I usually have 4 batteries charging and 4 in the bar at any one time, so I can replace them when they start to run down. If the batteries run down during a game, the icon on the screen will start to flicker, or not appear at all. This makes play impossible, so it is very important to keep the bar full opf charged batteries at all times, as you don't want them to "go" during a game. I find that personally, a set of 4 batteries will last about 3 gaming sessions before they need replacing, and rechargeable batteries will lose their charge over time whether you use them or not.
Despite this setback, I feel that the wireless bar is much better than the official bar that comes with the Wii. It is cheap, practical, portable and effective, and I would recommend that anyone with a Wii get one of these as a cheap backup bar in case their sensor bar breaks.Read more ›
