Product Description

Product Description

An exciting, easy-to-follow guide on to how to simply and inexpensively make your own custom couture skirts by embellishing them with a wide variety of materials and techniques. Core techniques such as pattern cutting, sewing seams, hemming, waistbands and zips, finishing, screenprinting and adding embellishments are illustrated with step-by-step photographs. There are also instructions for manipulating fabric to create fabulous effects such as ruffles and rosettes, producing unusual decorations using buttons and beads, and creating unique prints and patterns with pens, pencils and foil. The book contains 49 designs and one mini. The projects range from the simple to the more advanced but all of them are easily within the range of the novice seamstress.

By Myra
This book isnot 49 or 49 1/2 skirts it is just one circular skirt design with lots of different ideas on how to decorate ir or emellish it. Although some of the ideas can be used elsewhere, this is not the book for you if you want lots of skirt pattern ideas!

This beautiful book would suit a wide variety of buyers, those already interested in textiles, those who wish to be more creative, and the complete novice of any age. It is the most inspiring guide with excellent photographs, each double spread with a new idea, concise clear instructions and it even includes pattern to get you going. A pefect present or a treat for oneself!

An inspiration! 18 April 2008
All those buttons and ribbons and pieces of fabric I've not been able to throw away now have a purpose! This book tempts you with 49 skirts (and one 'half-skirt') and explains loads of different techniques for creating your own - including making ruffles, pleats, rosettes, screen prints etc etc. There's a pattern for the skirt included, so you can start immediately! I'm usually daunted by sewing patterns but not this time - this is a simple skirt and everything is very clearly explained. Exactly the book I was hoping for.
