Review

This is the ultimate iris folding book, containing all the patterns from the previous three compendiums, which in turn contain the patterns from the small square books that papercrafters know and love. But if you are new to the hobby and don t know what it is all about, don t worry, for some basic instructions are given. These are not quite as basic as those in the original booklets, however, which helpfully explained all about how the hobby came about, what supplies you need to obtain, how to cut and prepare it etc. Instead, the patterns are grouped in three sections, depending on what initial shape they are based upon. I couldn t find any mention of the width of strip needed or how to fold it, so I would rate the book as being definitely aimed at improvers; any beginners reading this had better get hold of one of the original books, or one of Search Press own iris folding books. Here, though, is a treasure trove of patterns, all of them shown made up to give inspiration and with brief instructions. There are patterns for Christmas and Easter, new baby, celebrations, invitations and any time you need a card. Cats, pots, clothes, plants, parasols, eggs, abstract shapes, wine glasses etc are all here, together with many more. And once you have the hang of it, here is a wonderful way of recycling old envelopes, unwanted mailshots, wrapping paper and any other paper you might otherwise throw away. Was being green ever such fun?! --Rachel Hyde, MyShelf

Delve into this book for an amazingly thorough guide to iris folding! If you've tried this fascinating technique before and fancy a new challenge then this is the book for you. Inside you'll find everything you need to try it tonight. With hundreds of different templates for you to use, step-by-step photos are kept to a minimum so there's more room to show you the inspiring finished cards. There's quite a lot to take in, so why not enjoy the chance to curl up with your craft kit and a cuppa while you choose which project to start with. --Papercraft Inspirations, Feb 08

If you've always fancied having a go at iris folding but you're not quite sure where to start then don't miss the latest book from Search Press which is a complete compendium of iris folding. '460 Iris Folded Cards to Make' provides a guide to basic techniques along with templates and clear instructions for 460 different card designs. The book is split into sections, each one based around a variety of iris folding shapes. Lots of different ideas, designs and themes are given for each shape including flowers, cakes, animals and dragonflies. --Making Cards, March 08

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have., 12 April 2009
If you have any interest in Iris folding( and I keep meaning to get round to doing some) this book is well worth having. It has actually been available as 3 separate parts previously, but this is all those parts in one volume. The book is packed with templates, and I do mean packed. As well as all the basic shapes there is everything from Robins to Dutch windmills, hot air balloons to Celtic crosses,Dragonflies to Pumpkins, champagne glasses to Christmas baubles. You get the idea. There are also hundreds of cards pictured in colour throughout to give you ideas on arrangement and colour schemes, and as many black and white pictures.A really good value useful book to add to your collection
