This book is NOT available on Amazon.com where it would be cheaper. I first ran into it in a store in Australia as it's published by Murdoch. It's basically a translation of a Phildar book (c1986) on stitches in French:
Points aux aiguilles which had 233 stitches and had smaller color pictures of the swatches but with larger charts and better type. In this book you have written out instructions and charts which are very tiny and hard to read. Symbol key is in the back.
Contents are: knit-purl stitches, crossed stitches and cables, slipped stitches, lacy stitches, double stitches, twisted stitches, cast-off stitches, fancy stitches.
Double stitches are worked into the row below. There are 3 patterns for cast-off stitches. Fancy stitches includes 18. One of them is entrelac. The section on lacy stitches has a few interesting ones such as a 6-pointed star done as a hexagonal motif. The section on cables is extensive but nothing which can't be found in other books.
Most of the 400 stitches will be found in Harmony books or Barbara Walker's collection. Recommended for people like me who just want everything on this subject.
