From Amazon.co.uk

Some movies are so stupid that they are depressing to watch: 40 Days and 40 Nights is one of them. Almost nothing here even remotely resembles genuine human behaviour. Matt (Josh Hartnett) is brutally dumped by his knockout ex-girlfriend, and as a result is so torn-up inside that he vows to give up sexual activity--including masturbation--for Lent. His friends and coworkers start betting on how soon he'll crack. Their scepticism is fuelled when Matt meets Erica (Shannyn Sossamon) at a laundrette. They're immediately smitten with each other, but Matt struggles to stay true to his vow, even though it threatens to founder his potential relationship with Erica. Based on this description, you might think that 40 Days and 40 Nights is a religious educational video, however, the barrage of sex gags and frequent nudity will quickly dispel this notion. --Bret Fetzer

Product Description

After being dumped by his girlfriend, web designer Matt Sullivan (Josh Hartnett) begins to get panic attacks whenever he is about to have sex, and as a result decides to give it up for lent. His co-workers find this very amusing, and begin taking bets on whether Matt will be able to live up to his vow; something which proves especially difficult for the young man when he meets new girl Erica (Shannyn Sossamon) at the laundrette, and promptly falls for her. What will Erica think when she finds out about Matt's vow? And how will he fare when his ex-girlfriend decides to do her best to get him back?

3.0 out of 5 stars "Torture at PG-13 level" 23 May 2010
Format:DVD
Recently dumped shmuck Matt (Josh Hartnett) is sick of being constantly reminded of his ex-girlfriend when trying to fulfil his sexual desires, determined to prove that's what's been keeping him so low in his new relationships he decides to try and give up sex for 40 days, but not just sex, anything considered at all sexual including foreplay, fondling and of course touching himself... As you can guess, for a young American adult like Matt, this could prove quite a challenge and his following struggles are told in a hilarious but one-note style, Hartnett has geeky charm and physical personality to match and for people of the American Pie era, this is perfect.

3.0 out of 5 stars I wasn't blown away by it ( No pun intended) 30 Mar 2010
Format:DVD
I can't say I'm a big fan of Josh Hatnett in general but despite that I thought he played the part of the main character really well. The film had some comical moments in it in a typical American teen drama kind of way. It seems so typical how Americans make a big drama about the mishaps of a guy not being able to shoot his load and then spread the news all over the internet. I wasn't blown away (No pun intended) but the film's worth watching if there's nout on telly (i.e. IMAO saturday evenings LOL).
